Hahn Hutchcraft [ladybug@arends-sons.com] for finding and transcribing this document for the benefit and free use of all Ford County, Illinois researchers.
The names in the book were presented in "close-to" alphabetical order, meaning they were placed within the proper letter group. I've gone a step further and alphabetized the whole list. There are 657 burials listed here.
MOUNT HOPE CEMETERY SIBLEY, IL
Located one-half mile west of Sibley, Illinois, in Section 27, Sullivant Twp, on State Route 165.
The 20 acre plot was given by Mrs. M.L. Sullivant for a free burying ground. The first tombstone burial record was in 1874, but there must have been others buried there before that date, in unmarked graves.
The story of the Sullivant Estate farms, the largest corn farm in the nation at that time, is most interesting. Mr. Sullivant purchased 42,000 acres from the government in 1854. He bought a large farm near Broadlands, Illinois, about the same time, and developed that tract first.
The Broadlands farm was sold in 1865 to Mr. Alexander. Many of the buildings were moved over land to the Burr Oaks settlement. Many people were employed on this huge farm, said to be as many as 300 men at one time. Some of these had families.

B C D ... T-Z 432. EBEL, CAMILLE LAYER. The Land of Plenty, [by] Camille Layer Ebel. New York, Washington [and] Hollywood: Vantage Press, [1960.] 283p. Nita Kucer's story is, in a large sense, representative of thousands of Czech immigrants who came to America following the Civil War. Arriving in Chicago with her parents in 1865, three-year-old Nita quickly adapts to the language and culture of the new country, while her parents struggle to reconcile present with past. Covering the years 1865 to the Spanish American War, The Land of Plenty is a panoramic history of the city including such events as the Chicago fire and the World's Columbian Exposition, as well as the day-to-day activities of the heroine, her family, and friends. The characters are generally one-dimensional, and historic events often receive only token treatment, but a basic view of Czech mores and folkways and the Czechs' problems of assimilation demonstrate somewhat the Czech contribution to the conglomerate of manners and modes which make up American culture. 433. EDDY,ARTHUR JEROME, 1859-1920.
