If there's any truth to the oft repeated maxim, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" we're about to see it underscored in the halls of Congress. It's no secret that the Republican party is seeking absolute power and control of everything American. The own the presidency, they own both houses of Congress, and they're wearing out horses trying to gain absolute control of the Judiciary. They don't care how blatant their power grabs appear to the public. They have the ultimate cover - "God is on our side."

When we were young, and Love was young,
And Hope sang sweet with silver tongue.
did you?
The years went by. Up stony roads
While dear love lightened heaviest loads
did you?
Sore trouble came; and griefs and fears
And while each dried the other's tears,
did you?
While henceforth through the shadows lead
And each of us had greatest needs, do you? When through the dark vale all must tread Leans at last a dying head Ellen P. Allerton. Walls of Corn and Other Poems Ellen P. David Wilson and Rob Compton: Emotions are takin' me over
The first of the seven Goodridge couples to legally tie the knot, the wedding of David Wilson and Rob Compton was marked by a collective release of joyful emotion - both for the couple personally and the completion of the three-plus years of legal struggle, with all the attendant twists and turns.
It's no wonder that shortly after taking a seat in second-row pew at the Arlington Street Church - and well before Wilson and Compton even walked down the aisle - GLAD attorney Mary Bonauto burst into tears. Seated to her left, openly gay state Sen. Jarrett Barrios dabbed his eyes with a kleenex; Compton's mother, Josie, seated to Bonauto's right, had shown up minutes before with a hanky at the ready. By the time the Boston Gay Men's Chorus finished their ode to gay marriage, "Marry Us," one was hard-pressed to find a dry pair of eyes in the historic church - including more than a few teary-eyed chorus members.

How did you meet? Ellen: Rhonda: I was struggling with my previous relationship, not fully conscious that it was ending. We were both going out, seeing other people, but thought that we would work things out and get back together. We had been together for eleven years. Ellen: To have continued the old one would have provided too much conflict and pain for ours to develop properly. I had to make that kind of a confrontation. I needed to see that this was a relationship with a life commitment possibility. She chose to end the old relationship. Rhonda has a capacity to take emotional risks, to look at hard decisions and to make them. I have a lot of respect for that. And she has kept that quality over the years.
When did you come out? Ellen: About seven years ago, toward the end of my 14-year marriage. Rhonda: I came out when I was 19.
Are you out to your parents? Rhonda: Both my parents are dead. I never came out to my mother. A couple of years ago, my father came to the marriage ceremony Ellen and I had. He was very accepting and respectful of our relationship.

    Excerpt
Clerical marriage became a central issue not only in polemical literature but also in the formation of confessional identities and the royal policy of mid-Tudor England. In six chapters, Helen Parish of the University of Reading examines the theological and moral concerns in the debate over clerical celibacy that engaged evangelical polemicists such as John Bale, William Tyndale, and George Joye, and their conservative opponents including Stephen Gardiner, Thomas Martin, and Richard Smith. Parish carefully places this controversy of 1530-1570 into the broader context of support for clerical marriage by continental reformers including Luther and Melanchthon. In her last chapter, she considers the actual practice and reception of clerical marriage by analyzing quantitative and anecdotal... Search Journals About MUSE Contact Us

Ellen Smith Craft is a Georgia woman whose life story reads like a as awedding present upon that sibling’s Marriage to Dr. Robert Collins of Macon.
    http://www.gawomen.org/honorees/long/crafte_long.htm
    Ellen Smith Craft
Ellen Smith Craft is a Georgia woman whose life story reads like a Hollywood script of adventure and courage: an unlikely escape from the shackles of slavery followed by the selfless pursuit of justice despite continuing threats to her own safety and well-being. She was born in 1826, in the town of Clinton, GA just a few miles east of Macon. Her mother was an African American slave named Maria; her father was her mother’s white owner and master, Col. James Smith. Ellen’s skin was very light and she was often taken for a member of her white family. It is easy to imagine what an unhappy relationship she must have had with her mistress, the wife of Col. Smith. At age eleven she was given to her half-sister as a wedding present upon that sibling’s marriage to Dr. Robert Collins of Macon. Ellen met her own husband-to-be there. William Craft was a slave whose family had been broken up and sold to pay its master’s gambling debts. In Macon he belonged to a banker who apprenticed him out as a carpenter so as to earn money from his labor. Ellen and William were allowed to marry in 1846, but they could not live together since they belonged to different owners. They endured this separation for a while but soon began to save money and plan an escape.
