"Very romantic Medieval romance."
Amicia MacLean's greatest wish is to become the bride of Magnus MacKinnon, having loved him since she was a young girl. Her wish is granted when her brother arranges the marriage by proxy, ending any past feuding between the families and aiding the MacKinnon clan with much-needed coin. At the age of ten and two, Magnus MacKinnon knew he wanted to make Amicia MacLean his bride. But he also knew it was impossible because of the lack of suitable funds. When he returns home after being away for three years, he finds himself married by proxy to none other than his heart's desire. But he refuses to keep her. Amicia will not be sent home and sets her mind on making Magnus fall in love with her. Magnus is hell bent on making sure Amicia is kept safe from danger when strange accidents start to happen. When he finally decides she can stay, a wedding celebration is planned, and he is determined to give her at least one night of happiness. However, he can't tell her how he truly feels until he's able to raise enough coin to pay back her family. WEDDING FOR A KNIGHT is a very romantic story. The night of the wedding celebration is extremely sexy. I recommend this story to anyone who loves this era and Scotland.

SAY WHEN Elizabeth Berg Washington Square Press Fiction ISBN: 0743411374 When Frank Griffin learns his wife Ellen is having an affair, he feels his marriage begin to dissolve. And when Ellen says she wants a divorce, his whole world starts to fall apart. Griffin's struggle to save his marriage and his realizations of his role in its demise are at the center of Elizabeth Berg's latest novel, SAY WHEN. Griffin and Ellen seem to have it all: a home in the suburbs, a beautiful and smart daughter, and a relationship that has lasted. Still, Griffin's suspicions of his wife's new relationship are confirmed, and he must call into question his marriage and his emotional history with Ellen in order to secure their future together. Neither Ellen nor Griffin is initially willing to leave their home or their daughter. So the two live for a time as roommates, even as Ellen continues to see her lover. Griffin is torn between his need for Ellen and wanting her back, and his anger and loneliness that drive him to begin a relationship of his own. Griffin's daughter Zoe is a source of comfort to him in the midst of marital turbulence. She is a wise little tomboy who reacts to the turmoil (as well as social pressure) by both pulling away from her parents and exploring her femininity. In Zoe, Ellen and Griffin have a gauge for their relationship and their emotions. Griffin is also grounded by his seasonal job as a shopping mall Santa Claus. Working as Santa turns out to be an unexpected and much needed distraction, besides being a simple and effective way to put his life in perspective.

The Marriage of Charles Dickens
Catherine Hogarth was the eldest daughter of George and Georgina Hogarth. Catherine was born in Scotland. In 1834 she and her family moved to England where her father had taken a job as a music critic for the Morning Chronicle Charles Dickens, young and unattached, was also employed by the Morning Chronicle. His first romantic relationship, with Maria Beadnell , had ended badly. However he was quite recovered and was quickly taken with Catherine. They met in 1834, became engaged in 1835 and were married in April of 1836. In January of 1837 the first of their ten children was born. The early years of their marriage were apparently quite happy. Dickens was in love with his young wife and she was very proud of her famous husband. In 1841 the couple traveled to Scotland. In 1842 they traveled to America together. After the 1842 trip to America, Catherine's sister Georgina came to live with the couple. Catherine was becoming overwhelmed the the duties of being the wife of a famous man and mother of ten children. Georgina stepped in to fill the gaps and eventually ran the Dickens household.

George Meredith (1828-1909) A Brief Biography
Elvira Casal, Ph. D.
Early Life
eorge Meredith was born on February 12, 1828 . His first home was in Portsmouth, where his father was a tailor. When George was only five years old, his mother died. His childhood after her death was not happy. His father, Augustus Meredith, had inherited a failing business and heavy debts from his own father. In 1837, Augustus was forced to declare himself bankrupt. He went to London to earn a living, and George was sent to stay with relatives in the country and eventually to boarding school. In 1841, partly to protect George's small inheritance, Augustus made him a ward in Chancery. In 1842, when George Meredith was 15, he attended the Moravian school at Neuwied on the Rhine. Although he was there for less than two years, Meredith was to refer to this period as the only real education he had. The school stimulated his intellect and taught him to respect rationality, self-respect, sincerity and courage. The time spent there also left him with a love of German music, poetry and the German countryside. It marked the end of his formal schooling.
Professional Beginnings and First Marriage
Although George Meredith was apprenticed to a solicitor, Richard Stephen Charnock, there is no evidence that Meredith studied law or did any work towards entering the legal profession. Instead, with the encouragement of Charnock and his literary friends, Meredith began to write poetry and helped organize a monthly manuscript magazine.

You will need at least a double line buffet with separate beverage and dessert areas. Do you have at least 3 months to prepare? For example, you need to rent serving dishes, glasses, silverware, plates and tables and chairs now. The rule of thumb for catering chareges is the food will be 1/4 to 1/3 of the total cost, usually closer to 1/4. This does NOT count you rentals, but does count your staff. If you are charging, you are legally liable for food poispning, accedents, etc, you need insurance! Please read all the food safety articles on this site.

TAUSCHER URGES PASSAGE OF MARRIAGE PENALTY TAX CUT CALLS GOP TACTICS DESTINED FOR FAILURE Washington, DC Below is the statement that Rep. Tauscher gave on the House Floor this morning in opposition to the measure. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers had written a letter to the House Republicans urging them to consider the measure under regular order. Rep. Tauscher will support ending the marriage tax penalty as part of this year’s budget: " Mr. Speaker, as a supporter of eliminating the Marriage Penalty Tax, I am disappointed in the way the Republican leadership has brought this issue to the Floor. It’s like Ronald Reagan said more than a decade ago, ‘here they go again.’ Only this Republican leadership can take a consensus issue such as the Marriage Penalty Tax Cut and politicize it to the point of failure. "It is irresponsible for the Republican leadership to bring this kind of tax cut measure to the Floor outside of the context of the entire budget. If we are to be fiscally responsible and maintain our balanced budget and the era of surpluses, we cannot make these kinds of decisions in a vacuum.

Mary Ellen and Curt's Wedding Album Mary Ellen meets Curtis Willard when Dr Vance moves from Waltons Mountain, and the community gets together to advertise for a new Doctor.   The episode is The Wedding, a 2 hour special from season 5.  There is a love/hate relationship from the word go.  Mary Ellen had quickly become engaged to another doctor she worked with, David Spencer, but with Curt's arrival on the mountain, she finds that she needs to spend time with him as he learns about the mountain people.   Mary Ellen, along with other town people, find Dr Willard so blunt that he is offensive, but Mary Ellen is quick to add that he is a very good doctor. Erin is aware that there are feelings developing between the new doctor and her sister, and when she intercepts a note from Curt to Mary Ellen, she is quick to burn it. Dr Willard then disappears mysteriously with money which was raised to by medical equipment and the note contained information on where he could be reached. Fortunately no harm is done and when Curt arrives back at the Walton home, complete with the medical equipment he has bought, he yells out his marriage proposal to Mary Ellen in front of her family. Mary Ellen asks Curt if he thinks his unromantic proposal is really a proposal at all.

http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/2792/mewed2.htm
Mary Ellen and Jonesy's Wedding Album The wedding of Mary Ellen Walton to Arlington Wescott Jones 3rd came about after her first marriage to Curtis Willard ended.  She had been notified that Curt had been killed in the Pearl Harbour attack only to find some time later that he was alive, but quite a different man. Curt asked for a divorce. So Mary Ellen's second marriage took place in the second of the 1982 movie specials, Mother's Day on Waltons Mountain. Jonesy had been introduced to us during season 9 and the romance blossomed and finally the young couple became husband and wife. Jonesy got along very well with Mary Ellen's young son, John Curtis, and called him Johnny. The happy couple celebrated their wedding reception at the home of Mary Ellen's family, the Walton home. Here Jonesy is toasting their future together, and thanking a fairly shady car salesman who sold him a bomb which broke down and led him to meet Mary Ellen. John Curtis, Elizabeth and Jason at the wedding reception, where both Elizabeth and Jason are trying to talk John Curtis out of another piece of wedding cake. Elizabeth asks if John Curtis wants to become as fat as Santa Claus, and John Curtis's happy reply is "Yes!". Also enjoying the reception are newlyweds, Paul and Erin Northridge, and Cindy and Ben Walton. Cindy is quite pregnant with their second baby.

Must gay rights wait for our `comfort'? By Ellen Goodman, Globe Columnist - December 16, 2004
EVER SINCE the election, I've been carrying around a small newspaper clipping with an Alabama dateline. It tells how the voters rejected a referendum to cleanse their constitution of language that once required segregated schools.
Some embarrassed citizens insist that the vote was not really about race. They say that ballot question was framed by its opponents as a backdoor way to raise taxes. They remind me that the Alabama Constitution has as many amendments as my city has parking meters.
But there's no way around the fact that half a century after Brown v. Board of Education, Alabamans left discrimination enshrined in their constitution. There's no way around the fact that 40 years after Governor George Wallace declared "segregation forever," some portion of Alabamans are still not "ready" for integration.
I raise this because there's a lot of conversation in the aftermath of the election about civil rights and the pace of change, especially around the issue of gay marriage.
One of the more tenacious ideas about the 2004 presidential election is that same-sex marriage dunnit. The decision to legalize gay marriage in Massachusetts and the pictures of weddings in San Francisco, New York, and Oregon "energized" the Republican base and reelected the president.

Rethinking the Slave Narrative: Slave Marriage and the Narratives of Henry Bibb and Ellen Craft. Westport: Greenwood P, 2001. 184 pp. $59.00. It is high time that someone directly challenged us to rethink our assumptions about slave narratives. Early studies such as those by Marion Starling, Phyllis Klotman, and Charles Nichols were clear about the diversity and complexities of this genre. However, over the years, there has been an increasing tendency to present one or two authors of mid-nineteenth-century texts as representative of (or, even worse, as the benchmark for the more than 6,000 autobiographical writings published over at least two centuries. Moreover, as author Charles J. Heglar says, even our discussions of these "classic slave narratives" tend to favor certain tropes and themes while ignoring other aspects that would mitigate or complicate our pronouncements.
