A Short History of Marion Station, Maryland
Marion Station
Somerset County, MD
Marion Station is a small town in Somerset County that lies between Westover and Crisfield. Originally, the town was originally designated as "Colbourne Creek" and the center of activity lay several miles to the west, on the banks of the creek.. Once the railroad to Crisfield was put through in 1866, there was a need to erect a train station in Marion. John C. Horsey donated the right of way for the railroad and a train station and named the depot after his daughter, Marion. Thus a thriving village grew up around "Marion Station" and it later became the largest strawberry producing area in the world. Marion Station also built the first hospital in Somerset County. Locals still remember it as well as the movie house, blacksmith shops, grocery store and hardware store. The Adams Hardware Store still stands and is in remarkable condition. Anna Mae Adams-Pennewell, daughter of J. Stanley Adams still opens the hardware store every morning (except Sunday). She is 89 years old and can offer many stories about the town and the people who have lived there.

185. Garbled Communications: Classic Tv: Marion And Geoff
Article analyses the success of the series of monologues, and draws comparisons with other solo performances.
http://www.garbledonline.net/marionandgeoff.html
CLASSIC TV: MARION AND GEOFF
“Good morning, good morning”
The word ‘monologue’ rarely appears synonymous with ‘exciting’, ‘gripping’, ‘compulsive’ or, well, ‘good’. It seems to conjure up images of the drama-obsessed kids in school who thought they were the next Lawrence Olivier, or a really downtrodden story of a young junkie who “just can’t get anything right”, broadcast on Radio 4 at tea time (surely enough to put you off your fish fingers). In most cases, a lonely man’s tales about his decaying relationship with his children and his unlucky love life would be as instantly annoying and forgettable. That is until you’ve met Keith Barratt.
Best described as a comparatively upbeat Talking Heads for the twenty-first century (Alan Bennett’s series acclaimed TV and radio series, not the band – that accolade would surely go to Franz Ferdinand), Marion and Geoff is essentially the life and times of Mr Barratt, a father of two who is perpetually looking on the bright side of his circumstances and trying to make his divorce work.
In fact, it is Keith’s post marital life which provides the story lines for much of the series, with his past creeping in via stories, reminiscence or anecdotes. Still preoccupied with ex-wife and mother of his children Marion, and her ‘new’ boyfriend Geoff, Keith sets about explaining, over the course of two series, how he came to be driving the car he’s in and where he’s exactly headed. Or at least

PARKS Francis Marion National Forest South Carolina Francis Marion is a national forest under construction, and the contractor is Mother Nature. On September 21, 1989, Hurricane Hugo's 135-mile-per-hour winds pummeled the forest, uprooting or snapping in two enormous old trees covering tens of square miles. Most young trees survived the devastation, and today, visitors can witness nature's fascinating rebuilding process. Sunset at Parsons Mountain Lake campground. Lying along South Carolina's Intracoastal Waterway, this verdant 250,000-acre forest boasts a rich variety of wildlife habitat and offers excellent opportunities for bird-watching, nature study, photography, and fishing. Otters, beavers, coyotes, bobcats, black bears, and possibly even panthers make their home in Francis Marion. The Marion County Animal Shelter will undergo massive renovations in the spring and summer of 2005. Please be advised that our databases may be down for a while so that we may focus efforts to updating the shelter itself. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Who We Are
The Marion County SPCA is a non-profit organization that strives to help end animal cruelty and place all orphaned and previously unwanted animals into kind, loving homes. Among the services we provide are: An animal shelter, foster home program, anti-cruelty campaigns, volunteer opportunities, animal control in Marion County, criminal investigations into animal cruelty, education in local schools about how to handle and care for pets, as well as what types of animals are realisitic to have as pets.
Adopting a friend
To adopt a pet, you can come by the shelter between the hours of 7AM and 5PM Monday-Saturday and 7AM to Noon on Sunday. We are open on all holidays. Since our opening in 1997, we have only been closed to the public one day, because of a snowstorm. So if it is daylight, there's a good chance we're open. Our Petfinder page is currently under construction and we do not yet have pets listed. We hope to have our page finished by the end of October, but until then, if you cannot come by the shelter, feel free to call 843-423-8370 to find out what kinds of animals we have. If that line is not available, please call 464-2454. The latter number should also be called for questions about pets featured on our pet list. Adopting a dog at our shelter is 25 dollars. A cat is 5 dollars. For animals that are frequently abused (such as purebred pit bulls and rottweilers) we may raise the adoption fee.
