STALCUP, David Michael (circa 1945-2002) Police officer dies in the line of duty:
David Stalcup, 57, suffers massive heart attack
A veteran McMinnville police officer died from a massive heart attack while on duty Sunday evening. The officer, David Stalcup, 57, was stricken around 8:30 p.m. Sunday while he was working on his daily reports at the activity center on Hamilton Street. Officers who had seen him a short time earlier reported the lawmen seemed normal before the sudden onset which claimed his life. Stalcup had been a lawman since the 1970s and had served with McMinnville Police Department since 1982. Prior to that time, Stalcup was with the city police department from 1970-75, serving a short stint with the sheriff’s office before returning in 1982. At the time of his death, Stalcup was assigned to the McMinnville Housing Authority patrol which is a federally-funded force working cooperatively with the municipal police force which concentrates its efforts on the housing authority section. The officers normally work shifts from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. According to McMinnville Police Chief Joe Melton, Stalcup’s participation in the housing authority precinct over the past few years brought about a dramatic reduction in crime in that area. “The patrol made a big difference in that neighborhood and David was a big part of that,” Melton said. “David was a good police officer. He did his job and would do anything he was asked to do. I really don’t know if anyone could ever fill his shoes. Our sympathy goes out to his family.” The sudden loss of Stalcup came as a bitter blow to his fellow officers and those in the community who knew him.

    Biographical History
Emma Alice Margaret (Margot) Asquith was born in 1864, the sixth daughter of Scots parents Emma and Charles Tennant. Her father 'an exceptionally enterprising and farseeing man of business' (DNB), became very wealthy, and developed a taste for collecting fine art and porcelain. He was a Member of Parliament from 1879 until 1886, and created a baronet in 1885. In 1853 he bought an estate in Peeblesshire, Scotland and enlarged the house The Glen, which was to become the family home in which Margot spent her youth. She received a very limited education from a governess, and recalled 'It was only because my father had a fine library and we were fond of reading that I learned anything before I was sixteen' (

He founded group theory, a major field of math today. The class of abelian groups are named in his honor. Abney, Sir William (1843 - 1920) Agassiz, (Jean) Louis Rodolphe Swiss-American naturalist, one of the best informed and most capable biologists of his day, with an ability to awaken the public's interest in natural science. He introduced the theory that at one time most of the earth was covered by glaciers. He was opposed to the Darwinian theory of evolution, but believed in a theory of epochs of creation. He was the First Director of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard. Agnesi, Maria Gaetana (1718 - 1799) She was one of the most extraordinary women scholars of all time. By the age of 10 she had mastered French, Latin, Greek, and the Hebrew Language. She soon followed her father into the world of mathematics. She expanded the known calculus of her day. Only her womanhood prevented her from honored membership in the mathematical societies of her day. Albright, William Foxwell (1897-1971)
