Mary Crosson's "Plain Jane" Series Listings Main Page Children's series books available online Reading an e-text is a poor substitute for the the sensory pleasure of actually handling and reading an old book, but it's a good way to check out unfamiliar series and authors before you invest a lot of time in hunting down "real" copies. I've attempted to list currently available free e-text versions of series books (and some other books of interest to series fans, such as the novels of Alger, Henty, and Stratemeyer.) If you know of one that I have not listed, please let me know so that I can keep the list as up-to-date as possible. Similarly, if you find that a link does not work, please email me so that I can correct the problem. June 22 ~  Sing With Passion Look Great at Any Age
F l o w e r s are the sweetest things that God ever made, and f o rg o t to put a soul onto." ~ Henry Ward Beecher Dried flowers are everlasting flowers. In the late 19th century, les immortelles, flowers grown specifically for drying, were used to create bouquets d'hiver, arrangements for the winter. The simplest way to preserve flowers is to air-dry them. Roses, lavender, and hydrangeas air-dry exceptionally well by hanging them upside down. You can also flat dry the flowers on racks, upright-dry, garden dry, or oven-dry. The best time to harvest flowers for drying is when they are one-half to three-quarters of the way open. "Ah, the smell of flowers. I've just put flowers in a vase," praised writer Helen Caldicott. "The meaning of life is the flowers in the vase." Gathering and pressing blossoms are part of a long tradition, a romantic and magical way to save a memory, to create immortality. The thinner a flower or plant, the easier it is to press... Oak and maple leaves, poppies , and pansies are excellent . Pressed flowers create beautiful cards , pictures, and decorative frames or candles.

    Memories Are Like Clouds
    By Diana J. Dell
    ISBN: 0595001416
    Memories Are Like Clouds
(Link to Amazon) Memories Are Like Clouds immediately drifts back to childhood after the funeral of a soldier killed in Vietnam. Kenny and his sister Diana's young world was the mill-town neighborhood they inhabited with Eastern European immigrants and their offspring during the Eisenhower fifties. This touching memoir is a fond remembrance of growing up when life seemed simple. Gliding on the porch swing while listening to their mother's stories of her youth, counting dead goldfish at the five-and-ten cent store, playing pick-up baseball games down near the dump, collecting Ralph Kiner and Stan Musial baseball cards, helping Daddy at his candy business, devouring Sgt. Rock comic books, and running numbers for the neighborhood bookie in a housedress filled those innocent days in East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. In this book readers will meet dozens of memorable characters: Mrs. Trotaskovich, the widow across the street, who called her bowels "barrels" and ate prunes from morning till night; Herr Fromer, the traveling baker who sang opera on the radio; Cazzy and Sousha, the town's biggest gossips; Uncle Caz, who could tell when it was going to rain by the shrapnel pain in his back; the hunchback of All Saints Polish Roman Catholic Church; normally sweet Uncle Bobby, a Tourette's Syndrome sufferer; witchy Mitzy, the candy store owner; Mr. Jaztremsky, the washing machine repairman and Bataan Death March survivor; Mutzy Futzy, the neighborhood bully; war heroes Man Mountain and the PNA janitor.
