The Internet is radically changing the ways in which enterprises interact with each other in value networks. However, today's existing software technology doesn't adequately address the need to create highly complex interactions among multiple business partners. The arrival of web services promises to bring changes in current Internet technology. Web services are self-contained, self-describing, modular applications that can be published, located and invoked across the web. They perform functions that can be anything from simple requests to complicated business processes. Using web services, an information system will be able to communicate much more easily with a partner's information system than in the past. Web services provide the technical foundation that companies need, to adopt the new operating style required by a dynamic business world: 'plug-and-play e-business'.By plug-and-play', we mean that companies can integrate themselves seamlessly into each other's businesses with little or no software efforts and without the protracted business cycles of the past in order to meet customers demands. But what technology should be used for implementing web services? The editors believe objects, component-based development and software re-use are key parts of the software engineering approach onto which web services are to be built.

45. Rashi De Troyes
RASHI, Maurice Liber Szold trans.(Jewish Publication Society, 1906) This bookdescribes (pp6869) Rashi s precognition or remote viewing of Godfrey s fate
http://www.qedcorp.com/pcr/pcr/rashi.html
I relate a Jungian synchronicity. I was attending a meeting of the AAAS at the Hilton Hotel in 1980. A man walked up to me noticed my name tag "Sarfatti" and said "Are you related to Margherita Sarfatti?" "Yes, distantly.", I replied. "I have traced your family tree back a thousand years to Rashi de Troyes. My name is David Padwa." Padwa told me a little about the great French Rabbi. He claimed that one of Rashi's daughters went to Spain and that her descendants formed our Italian branch after the expulsion of Spanish Jews in 1492. He said we were distant cousins. He gave me his card. He was from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I mentioned the incident to beat poet, Gregory Corso Corso said. "Oh yeah, Padwa! I knew him in the Village. He's a smart guy who made a lot of money from Xerox. He went with Ram Dass to India. He's mentioned in the book Be Here Now as the rich American in the Land Rover. He's a real heavy with the Dalai Lama. He brought the Dalai Lama to America." About a month goes by. Dave Masetti, editor of North Beach Magazine back then hands me a letter from Padwa. I open it. Padwa writes that a strange thing happened to him right after he met me. He had been looking for the autobiography of George Gamow's My World Line for six months. It was out of print. Mathematician Stan Ulam had told Padwa to read it. Padwa leaves me at the Hilton after the conversation about Rashi wanders over to North Beach and discovers

The Restitution of Jewish Cultural Treasures After the Holocaust: The Offenbach Archival Depot's Role in The Fulfillment Of U.S. International And Moral Obligations
(A First Hand Account)
Col. S.J. Pomrenze (US Army - Retired) June, 2002 Restituting over 3,000,000 Offenbach archival depot (OAD) books, archives, other cultural properties-fulfilling U.S. International and moral obligations. 1946-1949 Thank you, Dr. Zachary Baker, for inviting me to talk at this 7 th annual Rosaline/Myer Feinstein lecture on the OAD restitution activities, involving over 3,000,000 books, archives, and other cultural properties, to fulfill U.S. International and moral obligations after World War II. Thanks also to the Council of Archives and Research Libraries in Jewish Studies (CARLJS), the National Foundation for Jewish Culture (NFJC), and the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL). It is an honor. It forced me to study events occurring over 50 years ago relating to OAD organization, staffing, policies, and procedures; and to study OAD “regular” and “special” authorized restitution operations, 1946-1949. Also to reflect on lessons to be learned, of possible value to you. In late February 1946 my colleague, first Lt. Leslie I. Poste, a library and archives specialist, drove me through a blinding snowstorm to Offenbach, Germany—next to Frankfurt-am-main. (1) En route, Lt. Poste briefed me on the Offenbach collecting point’s origin in 1945. His role, along with others, in selecting a building within the I.G. Farben complex on the main river, and his concern that restitution operations be expedited, in accordance with U.S. Military regulations.

OFFENBACH ARCHIVAL DEPOT
ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION
Personal Reminiscences of the Offenbach Archival Depot, 1946-49
Fulfilling International and Moral Obligations Colonel Seymour J. Pomrenze
November 30, 1998 I am delighted to share my experiences as Director of the Offenbach Archival Depot from March to May 1946 as part of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's online exhibition investigating the identification and restitution of Holocaust-era libraries and archives. This exhibit is of timely significance as its launch coincides with the Washington Conference on Holocaust-Era Assets, November 30-December 3. And most importantly, this exhibition is a proper tribute to the many men and women involved in restitution efforts at the Offenbach Archival Depot. Introduction In late February 1946, my colleague First Lieutenant Leslie I. Poste, a Library and Archives specialist, drove me through a blinding snowstorm to Offenbach. En route, Lt. Poste briefed me on the Offenbach Collection Point's origins, his role in selecting a building within the I.G. Farben complex on the Main River, and his concern that restitution operations be expedited in accordance with military regulations. Since its establishment in July 1945, the operation had yet to restitute any materials. Lt. Poste also reviewed the operations of Hitler's Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR) and its educational branch the Institut zur Erforschung der Judenfrage (Institute to Research the Jewish Question). The ERR, backed by German military forces, had traced Jewish, Masonic, Socialist, and other anti-Nazi cultural objects throughout Germany and Nazi-occupied Europe and had deposited them in many places, especially in Frankfurt am Main in the Rothschild Library, Hungen and Hirzenhain in Hesse, and all over Bavaria. The ERR targets ranged from occupied Ukraine to the French-Spanish border and from Greece to the British Isle of Man. The ERR even raided Italy, an axis power. After Kristallnacht, the ERR collected items to save and use them for Nazism.

Gregory of Tours, History of the Franks
I found the walls of St. Martin's church damaged by fire. I ordered my workmen to use all their skill to paint and decorate them, until they were as bright as they had previously been. I had a baptistery built adjacent to the church, and there I placed the relics of Saint John and Saint Sergius the martyr. In the old baptistery I put the relics of Saint Benignus the martyr. In many other places in Tours and its immediate neighbourhood I dedicated churches and oratories, and these I enriched with relics of the saints. It would be too long to give you a complete list. Claudian on LacusCurtius
A Late Antique capital from the "Tomb of Stilicho" in the church of S. Ambrogio in Milan . Although the carving is of a slightly later time than Claudian and his hero Stilicho, and the tomb may not really be Stilicho's, its cold, stylized, and very formally treated Roman imperial eagles are a good emblem of the poet's work.
The Author, the Manuscripts
As with most ancient authors, not that much is known of Claudian, and the Loeb edition's introductory material , by Maurice Platnauer, is about as good as one can get; the principal manuscripts of the poet's works are also treated there.
The Texts
As always, I am retyping the texts rather than scanning them: not only to minimize errors prior to proofing, but as an opportunity for me to become intimately familiar with them, an exercise which I heartily recommend. (Well-meaning attempts to get me to scan text, if successful, would merely turn me into some kind of machine: gambit declined.) In the table of contents below, the items I've completely proofed are shown

In Persian art, the 'Eye' is replaced by Ahura Mazda who is seen to be riding in a winged chariot. Forget what Von-Daniken and Sitchin are making of these works of art - saying that they are depictions of "spacecraft" - how amusing when you know the truth - especially when one has experienced it for him or herself." [Jack] Why forget it? Maybe they were "spacecraft". My contact in 1953 explicitly used the word "spacecraft". I do not think we should prematurely reject any alternative as yet. Both may be true. "The 'Winged Eye' symbolises a natural metafunction that we all have. It is the ability to access the Psi field via..." [Jack] Wait. We are Psi fields! Our minds are Psi fields. What you mean, perhaps, is our innate ability to link up with, to entangle with other Psi fields attached to other material brains X, or maybe even the Psi field in the quantum foam perhaps? In quantum theory this nonlocal linking of the mental Psi fields does no local good because of signal-locality. You cannot locally decode any useful information from the mind link. That all changes in post-quantum theory. The Radin-Bierman "presponse" cannot happen in quantum theory, only in post-quantum theory. [Mark]
