Charles Godfrey Leland ) was an American humorist and folklorist , born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and educated at Princeton University , and in Europe. In his travels, he made a study of the gypsies , on whom he wrote more than one book. His fame rests chiefly on his comic Hans Breitmann Ballads (1871), written in the patois known as Pennsylvania German . His writings on Algonquin and gypsy culture were part of the contemporary interest in pagan and Aryan traditions. They influenced the development of Wicca and modern neo-paganism His most famous book was Aradia: Gospel of the Witches , purportedly containing the traditional beliefs of Italian witchcraft. Other books of his are Meister Karl's Sketch-book Legends of Birds Algonquin Legends Legends of Florence (1895), and Flaxius, or Leaves from the Life of an Immortal Retrieved from " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Godfrey_Leland Categories 1824 births 1903 deaths ... Biographical Sketch
Oscar Fingal O'Flaherty Wills Wilde, born in 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, was the second son of Sir William Robert and Lady Jane Francesca Wilde. At the age of ten, Wilde entered the well-known Portora Royal School, where he excelled in Greek studies. His interest in Greek continued at Trinity College, Dublin, where John Mahaffy, an eminent Greek scholar who later took Wilde on a tour of Italy, was his tutor. Wilde was awarded a scholarship in classics from Magdalene College, Oxford, which he entered in 1874. During his fourth year at Oxford, Wilde won the prestigious Newdigate Prize for imitative poetry with a verse praising Ravenna, a city he had visited with Mahaffy and the burial site of Dante. In addition to his studies, Wilde began to develop his role as poseur and aesthete. Wilde received his BA in 1878 and, after an additional year at Oxford, went to London where he began writing. In 1880 Wilde published Vera; or, The Nihilists, and in 1881 he was hired by Richard D'Oyly Carte to boost Gilbert and Sullivan's new opera Patience in America by means of a lecture tour. Dressed in black velvet and a full length fur coat, he spoke on the new aestheticism from New York to San Francisco. He met with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louisa May Alcott, Walt Whitman, and Jefferson Davies, among others.

94. The Charge Of The Goddess By Aleister Crowley
A fragmentary, Christianperverted version of it was published, for instance, byCharles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903 EV) in ARADIA, THE GOSPEL OF THE WITCHES,
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/7069/godsschg.html
The Charge of the Goddess by Aleister Crowley
by G.M.Kelly Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Mention the name of Aleister Crowley to most modern day Wiccans and one produces in them a kind of allergic reaction. Dare to say or even imply that many of today's Wiccan rituals were written by To Mega Therion, A.C., and these peace-loving, love-preaching blessed-be-ers are ready to take up their athames or swords and slit your throat! Crowley, they claim, had nothing to do with the Wiccan rituals. It's all a lie, a bloody goddamned lie! Crowley, that disgusting Satanist, could have had nothing whatsoever to do with the Craft of the Wise! Witchcraft can trace everything back to very ancient, pre-Christian times. The Old Religion has remained unchanged for centuriesæons!and that wicked old Beast 666 could have had nothing to do with it! However, he could have and he did. The point of all of this is that emotional overreaction tends to blind reason, and then one becomes unreasonable, and to be unreasonable is to be without reason, and to be without reason means that one has, at least temporarily, lost one's reason, and that in turn means one has gone at least a little crazy. So let's get real out there, people!
