A psicologia social surgiu para estabelecer uma ponte entre a psicologia e a sociologia . O seu objecto de estudo © o comportamento dos indiv­duos quando est£o em interac§£o. A psicologia Social pode ser definida como o condicionamento que os processos mentais impµem   vida social do homem, ao mesmo tempo que as diversas formas da convivªncia social influem na manifesta§£o concreta dos mesmos. Em , o cientista social francªs Gustave Le Bon (1841-1931) apresentou, em seu pioneiro trabalho sobre a Psicologia das Multidµes , a proposi§£o b¡sica para o entendimento de uma psicologia social: Sejam quais forem os indiv­duos que compµem um grupo, por semelhantes ou dessemelhantes que sejam seu modo de vida, suas ocupa§µes, seu car¡ter ou sua inteligªncia, o fato de haverem sido transformados num grupo, coloca-os na posse de uma esp©cie de mente coletiva que os faz sentir, pensar e agir de maneira muito diferente daquela pela qual cada membro dele, tomado individualmente, sentiria, pensaria e agiria, caso se encontrasse em estado de isolamento [9: p. 18]. Essa proposi§£o e os argumentos de Le Bon para justific¡-la, serviu de par¢metro para o estudo sobre Psicologia de Grupo publicado por Sigmund Freud em A Psicologia Social brasileira, segundo Pinel (2005), foi marcada por dois psic³logos bastante antog´nicos: Aroldo Rodrigues (positivista e que adotou uma abordagem mais de controle de atitudes atrav©s, por exemplo, de propagandas etc.) e, Silvia Lane (marxista e s³cio-hist³rica), ligada a Marx mesmo. Lana fez seguidores famosos e muito estudadas atuakmente (2005): Ana Bock e outros (mais ligados a Vigotski); como Bader Sawaia (que descreve minuciosamente as artimanhas da exclus£o e o quanto © falso e hip³crita a inclus£o, encarada como "maquiagem" que cala a voz do oprimido); Wanderley Codo (que estuda grupos minorit¡rios; sofrimentos e as questµes de saºde dos professores e professoras); "Bete" de Barros e Barros (que se associa a id©ias de Foucault, Deleuze, Guatarri entre outros); Carlos Eduardo Ferra§o ( que associa com Boaventura Santos; Michel de Certeau); Hiran Pinel (que resgata tanto o existencialismo quanto o marxismo de Paulo Freire) etc.

di FRANCO LIVORSI Si puó definire psicologia politica la spiegazione degli eventi collettivi in base a motivazioni in primo luogo mentali, o comunque lo studio delle motivazioni interiori dell'agire politico. II primo apporto decisivo di questo genere é l'opera di Gustave Le Bon Psicologia delle folle, del 1895.
Questo pensatore, francese, era stato assai colpito dalle folle rivoluzionarie: da quelle del 1789 a quelle della Parigi della Comune del 1871 e degli anni successivi. Egli notava nella folla spontanea un fenomeno di enorme suggestionabilitá reciproca, di tipo ipnotico, con l'emergere conseguente di tratti di atavismo o primitivismo, da branco o meglio orda primordiale, in cui tutte le emozioni e sentimenti venivano esasperati: si trattasse di paure, di forme di entusiasmo, di manifestazioni di aggressivitá o di coraggio di fronte al pericolo. Il prevalere delle pulsioni irrazionali, spesso connesso all'azione addirittura di ipnosi di fatto da parte di agitatori, avrebbe reso le folle inconsce, e perció capaci di atti che i singoli componenti non avrebbero compiuto mai se presi uno ad uno.
