John Lawson
TM The John Lawson biography should say he was killed on the Neuse River (actually, a tributary of the Neuse) and came to the colonies in 1701, first to Charleston, S.C., then made a 1701-1702 exploratory trip of Carolina from Charleston, up the Santee River, overland into North Carolina and ending near what is now Washington, N.C. He later became Surveyor-General of North Carolina.

John Lawson Digital Exhibit
One of the most interesting and yet enigmatic figures of colonial North Carolina history is John Lawson. Though he was an explorer, surveyor, land speculator, fur trader, naturalist, ethnographer, and writer, all that is really known about Lawson occurred during an eleven-year period, from when he arrived in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1700 until his death at the hands of the Tuscarora Indians of North Carolina’s Neuse River region in 1711. And even in this period, the record of Lawson’s life leaves many gaps. John Lawson: Imagining a Life presents several of the documents through which Lawson’s contemporaries as well as later historians and writers have tried to decipher who John Lawson was.

In the 1748 Lunenburg County, Virginia list of tithes John is shown with a son, William Lawson. Since William would have had to be at least 16 years old to appear in the list of tithes and assuming William was John's first child, then a guess for his birth date of 1713 or before can be made. Also see William-1 Lawson's TimeLine John Goochland Speculation: Jonas-1 Lawson's TimeLine 1 April 1746 Lunenburg Lunenburg County was organized from Brunswick County, Virginia.
