What has been less clear than the direction of the relationship has been the nature of its development. This study contributed to understanding the development of this relationship by providing insights into what stress-related factors impacted specific facets of job satisfaction and by investigating whether or not frequency of job stressors or intensity of job stressors had a greater impact on job satisfaction among a sample of industrial and technical teacher educators. Nancy S. Padian, Ph.D. , Associate Professor Nancy S. Padian, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She also has a joint appointment in the Epidemiology Program at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. For the last ten years, Dr. Padian has developed and directed a variety of projects on HIV and STDs in high-risk populations in and around San Francisco. This includes a ten year study of heterosexual transmission of HIV in Northern California, and a five year study of risk factors for pelvic inflammatory disease. In addition to continued study of the heterosexual transmission of HIV, her current research focuses on the efficacy of physical and barrier contraceptives that might decrease susceptibility to HIV and other STDS. To this end, she has two projects evaluating the acceptability and effectiveness of existing over-the-counter barrier methods, one in Northern California and one in Zimbabwe where she recently completed a study on the risks associated with use of intravaginal preparations.
