Thomas a Kempis ) ©tait un moine chr©tien du moyen-¢ge. Il est reconnu comme l'auteur de L'Imitation de J©sus-Christ , l'un des livres de d©votion chr©tienne les plus connus. N©   Kempen, en Allemagne (pr¨s de Cologne ) en 1380, il est d©c©d© pr¨s de Zwolle (pr¨s d' Amsterdam En 1395 il fut envoy©   Deventer,   l'©cole des Fr¨res de la vie commune. Il devint un copiste talentueux, capable de subvenir   ses besoins. Plus tard, il fut admis au couvent des Augustiniens du Mont Sainte Agn¨s pr¨s de Zwolle, o¹ son fr¨re Jean l'avait pr©c©d© et avait ©t© ©lev©   la dignit© de prieur. Thomas fut ordonn© prªtre en 1413 et fut nomm© sous-prieur en 1429. La communaut© fut perturb©e momentan©ment par le rejet de l'©vªque d'Utrecht Rodolphe de Diepholt par le pape. € part cela, Thomas mena une vie paisible, partageant son temps entre des exercices de d©votion, l'©criture, et la copie.
