A delightful place nestled among meadows and trees between Romsey and Winchester, its homes offer many forms of architectural style, hinting at an olde worlde England. Pretty dormer windows mingle with deep eaves and unusual gables, picturesque thatch and tile mixes with strong Tudor brick and plaster, roofs are freckled with golden brown lichen and timbered frontages provide an attractive façade. POSTCARDS SHOWING THE VILLAGE
(Kindly donated by Brian Palmer, Fair Oak) When it comes to the woodland area that borders Hursley Park, one is reminded of a song recorded by the late Jim Reeves - 'God's Cathedral', meaning the great outdoors in all its glory. There are wonderful arcades of beech trees in the wood which English clergyman John Keble (1792-1866) used to refer to as 'Hursley Cathedral'. There is also a fine house and beautiful garden at Hursley Park. The Butchers shop Hursley Church The Dolphin (note the hose, the cellars are being pumped out due to heavy flooding in the are)
