Delaware County, NY Genealogy and History Site transcribed by Les and Dorothy Howland, California The following records are courtesy of the Roxbury Library Associations History Room . Hard Copies of such records are available for viewing and duplication during normal library hours. This compilation is from the notebooks of Amy Gavette and was done in the 1960s . It was manually typed on typing paper. Needless to say some of it is faded and coping it is difficult. If dates don't match you may have to go to the Roxbury Library and see the originals, they too are starting to fade. This is not a public library, they run on support from their patrons and the History room is run by donations, and for such a small room it is packed full of information on the town of Roxbury and some Delaware county information. Jeannie Shires has photographed some of the headstones/markers in Dunlap Cemetery. She has graciously given permission to post the photos online. Because the size of having so many photos on one page is out of the question, I have made a link to each photo. Click the name of the person to see the photo. In the case of two people sharing a stone, the link for each person will go to the same photo. If the name does not appear as a link , a photo is not available.
These photos are available to anyone who wishes to use them. I have a copy of the photos on a CD. I have resized the photos for better viewing on the web. Changing the size of the photo may cause some loss in detail. The image file can be taken to a photo shop and have a reasonably good paper picture printed if you do not have the necessary tools to do so yourself. The larger photo might be better for this purpose. I will forward a copy of any specific headstone to anyone who has a need for the larger photo.
Feel free to download any of these photos to your computer. You may copy, edit or distribute the photos...no restrictions.

March 10, 2004: hi google search of my family name Downey resulted in your bytown or bust site coming up. in there I found some info any my ancestors who settled in the gracefield area. my grandfather was Patrick Downey who was the chief of police for the city of Ottawa in the 40's. his father - I think - was john Downey who is buried in the old catholic cemetary at grace Quebec. I know my grandfather had a brother Fred who I buried there also. I got all this info from links on your site. I can remember going the farm in the gatineau as a child and know that the family landed there from Ireland in the 1800's. can you tell me where I might locate my grandfather's obituary - the Ottawa citizen? I looked at their web site but it did not help much. any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. thanks Dave Downey E-mail Darlene Lannigan, Dave Downey and Al Lewis
