Historical and Biographical Note
The publishing enterprises of Samuel Sidney McClure are an important facet of early twentieth-century American journalism. The McClure Syndicate, started by Samuel Sidney McClure in 1884, was the first successful company of its kind, and was largely responsible for introducing many American and British writers to a national public. His later venture, McClure's Magazine , contained the influential "muckraking" articles of Ida Tarbell, Ray Stannard Baker, and Lincoln Steffens; it also had the distinction of promoting the then-unknown writer, Willa Cather. Although S.S. McClure's tenuous business competency would cause him to lose control over these ventures in the early part of the twentieth century, other members of his family, most notably his cousin, Henry Herbert McClure (d. 1938), were able to maintain a more steady career in the publishing world through the 1930s.

http://linnhistory.peak.org/cems/pleasantbutte.html
PLEASANT BUTTE CEMETERY near Brownsville, Linn Co., Oregon T13S R3W Section 23 9 Oct 1935 This cemetery is situated about two miles north and a trifle west of Brownsville. It is about one third mile back from the road and upon the first noticeable bench of a butte which, in early days, bore the name of "Pleasant Butte" but is now more generally known as the Earl Harrison Butte. The name "Pleasant Butte" comes from the name of the Pleasant Butte Baptist Church which formerly stood near this cemetery. Pleasant Butte Baptist Church was organized in 1853. The name was given to the church by Rev. Joab Powell, pioneer Baptist preacher of Linn County. To reach the Cemetery it is necessary to leave the public road from Brownsville to Linn Station at a point about one fourth mile north of the first railroad crossing north from Brownsville. The gate to the cemetery opens into the Earl Harrison barnyard. The track then travels westward between two Harrison barns and on up the hill through a pasture for about one third of a mile. Incidentally, the barn to the right as you enter the Harrison property is very old and was formerly a church - that same Pleasant Butte Church already mentioned. Its original site, however, was well up on the butte. Other land marks to aid in finding the cemetery are Linn Station on the Lebanon-Brownsville branch of the S.P. Ry. which is perhaps 1/? mile north-east from the cemetery plat. The Government Airway Beacon is directly above the cemetery on the crest of the butte and a trifle to the westward.

With the help of Auxiliaries on the other islands, the Honolulu County Auxiliary produced biographical sketches of doctors who practiced in Hawaii ("In Memoriam-Doctors of Hawaii." Hawaii Medical Journal, 1956 March-April ; 15(4) : 353-6). In doing its research, the Auxiliary committee collected newspaper clippings, biographical index cards from the Hawaii Medical Association and the county medical societies, photographs, and photographic negatives. Thus, the contains all of the materials collected from this ongoing project. The was originally organized and called the "Photograph Collection." Since this collection consists mainly of material on physicians who practiced in Hawaii, and contains more than photographs, the Mamiya Medical Heritage Center (MMHC) renamed the collection the "Physicians' File."
