JOHNSON
I am looking for information on Lewis Johnson born in 1761. Lewis was from North Carolina and was found in Wayne County in the 1830's. I believe he was living with his daughter and son-in-law, William and Rachel Hays. I am also interested in finding out information on Larkin Johnson. He was listed on some court documents in Wayne County with Lewis.

Inscriptions from
Queens Co., NY
[Transcribed by Jane Devlin]

[Transcriber's note: Because the original is a typescript rather than a printed book, there are inheriant problems familiar to anyone who has ever used a manual typewriter. Some letters are illegible because of ink filling in the character so that it is only a blob. Other letters, especially the capital letters at the beginnings of names are "raised" because the shift key wasn't held far enough down to register the entire letter, and some pages even look like carbon copies rather than originals. Where the uneven type made it impossible to decipher the letters, I've either put the most likely numbers or letters along with alternates (ie: 1876 (5? 8?)) or used underscores ( ) rather than guess.
Also, this set of records has a number in which two surnames are given for women and I have transcribed them as given. In some cases, the record will actually state that the woman was the daughter in one family and the wife in the other, but given the tendancy at the time of using a family surname as the middle name for a baby girl, I would personally be a little suspicious of the records that do not make the "daughter of ...., wife of ...." connections and look for additional confirmation of a maiden name. jd.]

LOUDON TOWNSHIP - 579 CHAPTER XXII. LOUDON TOWNSHIP AND FOSTORIA CITY. THIS is one of the western tier of townships of Seneca County. Its eastern line is within six miles of the county seat; and it comprises within itself one of the most enterprising and progressive cities in this portion of Ohio. The township was surveyed in 1820; but, for some years after settlers refused to seek a home in the Wolf Creek wilderness, although the sale of lands there was begun in 1821. A very small area presents a broken surface; but rolling lands are common. In general it is a slightly undulating plain, possessing a soil well adapted to the growth of cereals and esculent roots. Wolf Creek and its tributaries appear to beg for supply sources throughout the township. These streams are found rambling around everywhere within its bound, if we except the immediate neighborhood of the Fostoria divide. All the heads of the west fork of this meandering creek may be said to find a home here in Sections 7, 18 and 29, forming a stream at the northeast corner of Section 17, and flowing thence northeast, entering Jackson Township, 580 - HISTORY OF SENECA COUNTY in Section 35. Harrison Creek heads in two creeks on Sections 33 and 34, which flow north to Section 14, where they form one stream. This flows north by east, leaving the township just east of the west line of Section 1. One of the principal tributaries of the main stream of Wolf Creek rises near the south line of the township in its southeast quarter, flows through Sections 35, 36, 25 and 24, and enters Hopewell in Section 19 of that township.
