The Strange Record of 15 Years of Japan-North Korea Negotiations By Gavan McCormack and Wada Haruki The Emperor, Modern Japan and the U.S.-Japan Relationship: an Interview with Herbert P. Bix The foremost Western authority on the life and times of Emperor Hirohito known posthumously as the Emperor Showa talks about the role of Japan's former "living god" and his place in history in comparison with other powerful twentieth century leaders including Hitler, Mussolini, Roosevelt and George W. Bush. Bix explains why Japan will be unable to realize its full democratic potential without re-evaluating Emperor Showa. Bix also explores what lessons today's world leaders can learn from a study of this enigmatic figure. Interviewed by Eric Prideaux.

Was vom Tage übrigblieb

S tepping off the bullet train into a cold Hiroshima morning, we could sense the past. Exactly six months earlier, my wife, Irene, and I immersed ourselves in history quite by chance. A driving trip through New Mexico found us on the road to Los Alamos. We thought it might be closed to the public and did not know about the nuclear museum until we arrived. We spent the entire day touring offices `and laboratories that, half a century before, had been part of the most secret place on earth. Robert Oppenheimer was director of “The Manhattan Project,” and producer of the first nuclear bomb. We sat at his desk and viewed drawings of that bomb. Having seen where it all began, we felt compelled to continue on to where it had led...

Black Dragon Description
The Black Dragons were the Amur River Society (Kokuryu-kai) in 1930s and 1940s Japan. The Black Dragons were ultranationalists heavily involved in the conquest of China, and as spies and fifth columnists subverting nations targeted for conquest. The Black Dragons were active up and down the Pacific Coast of North and South America. In the United States, Black Dragons were a concern to Lieutenant Commander K.D. Ringle of U.S. Navy Intelligence and other security officials. On December 7, 1942; Black Dragons led Banzai! cheers at the U.S. Manzanar Relocation Center; the anniversary of the Japanese attack on U.S. forces at Pearl Harbor in 1941. The Black Dragons led and fomented riots and carried out acts of violence at Manzanar, Tule Lake Segregation Center, and other sites where Japanese enemy aliens and Americans of Japanese ancestry were located. The Black Dragons and other ultranationalist organizations provided the nucleus for the formation of the postwar Yakuza organized crime syndicates. See (
