Kids, let me tell you about another so-called "wicked" guy. He had long hair and some wild ideas, and he didn't always do what other people thought was right. And that man's name was... I forget. But the point is... I forget that, too. Marge, you know who I'm talking about! He used to drive that blue car? Claire Welcome You've reached Captain Wacky , a website dedicated to the lovable, bumbling, dim-witted father of America's favourite non-prehistoric cartoon family. Home E-Mail Download Lessons Interactive Quiz ... South America Homer Greek literature includes the Iliad and the Odyssey Iliad and the Odyssey give us an insight into early Greek civilization. The ancient Greeks considered the Iliad and the Odyssey Odyssey suggest that the author of the poems must have had sight at some point in his life. Modern scholars believe that the epics were based on oral legends, but it would be difficult for many people to memorize the long epics. This suggests that the Greeks had some form of writing long before their civilization flourished.

Biography of Homer
Homer Beyond a few fragments of information, historians and classicists can only speculate about the life of the man who composed the Iliad and the Odyssey. The details are few. We do not even know the century in which he lived, and it is difficult to say with absolute certainty that the same poet composed both works. The Greeks attributed both of the epics to the same man, and we have little hard evidence that would make us doubt the ancient authorities, but uncertainty is a constant feature of scholarly work dealing with Homer's era of Greek history. The Greeks hailed him as their greatest poet, as well as their first. Although the Greeks recognized other poets who composed in Greek before Homer, no texts from these earlier poets survived. Perhaps they were lost, or perhaps they were never written down?Homer himself was probably on the cusp between the tradition of oral poetry and the new invention of written language. Texts of the Iliad and the Odyssey existed from at least the sixth century BC, and probably for a considerable span of time before that. These two great epic poems also had a life in performance: through the centuries, professional artists made their living by reciting Homer, performing the great epics for audiences that often know great parts of the poem by heart.

136. Dan Castellaneta Profile

D'OH! NOW HE'S VAN GOGH
A Profile of Dan Castellaneta
BY ROBERT LOERZEL A shorter version of this article appeared in Pioneer Press Newspapers on May 24, 2001. Dan Castellaneta plays one of the most famous characters on television, but most people wouldn't recognize him. "It's the weirdest thing," says Castellaneta, the voice — the cartoon character Homer Simpson. "When you go into acting, you expect to be a huge star and to be recognized... It did happen, but not in the way you expect it to... In L.A., I'm just another character actor." Castellaneta, 42, does get his share of cameos on TV and he does a lot of voice work for animation. But he isn't exactly swamped with offers for big roles in movies and stage plays. "If I were actually Homer Simpson, I'd be getting scripts out the wazoo," he says. Because he loves doing live theater, Castellaneta turned to his own writing talents to come up with the right vehicle for his comedic acting. "It's hard to find a play that's right for me to do," he says. "Rather than waiting around for the right script to come along, I decided to write one myself." Castellaneta has won rave reviews in Los Angeles, Denver, New York and Arlington Heights, Ill., for his one-man show, "Where Did Vincent van Gogh?"

In 1978, a friend and commercial fisherman on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula asked his then six-year-old daughter if she wanted to see Homer Spit. She was terribly disappointed when he took her to the town of Homer instead of bringing her over to my shop. His daughter was his firstborn, and eight years later, she was killed when a building being moved fell and crushed her. Her death caused him to challenge God, and all he knew about God. While I don't know how his quarrel with God is presently going, I know that Christendom, beginning the morning after the second Passover liberation of the holy nation of God, will experience what this fisherman did if no more born-from-above sons of Abraham take the Passover as Jesus gave the example than presently do. The second Passover liberation of the spiritually circumcised sons of God is the event that begins seven years of tribulation that are the hard labor pains of the last Eve bringing many sons of God to glory. The Church will not miss the delivery of her children. She will not be bodily raptured to heaven to escape these hard labor pains.
