Deuteronomy
The fifth and last book of the Torah , consisting of the final discourses of Moses before his death, and on the threshold of the Israelites' entry into the promised land.
The word "Deuteronomy" is based on the Greek expression meaning "Second Law," which is a translation of the Hebrew " Mishneh Torah " that is used in the Bible itself to refer to the contents of the book, reflecting the fact that much of Deuteronomy consists of a review of Israelite history and of material that appeared in the earlier books of the Torah. In more recent times, it has become customary for Jews to refer to Deuteronomy by a title taken from its opening Hebrew words: " Devarim " (=the words)
Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra
Born and educated in the "Golden Age" of Muslim Spain, Ibn Ezra excelled as a poet, philosopher, grammarian and Biblical commentator. The latter part of his life was spent wandering in poverty through France, Italy, Egypt and Israel. It was during his wanderings that he composed most of his many influential literary works.
Ibn Ezra's works of Biblical interpretation were based primarily on a meticulous foundation of Hebrew grammar and philology. Although he allowed himself to disagree with the traditional homiletical explanations of the ancient rabbis, he strongly defended the authority of traditional Jewish law as embodied in the "

Professor Ginzberg wrote some 450 articles for the Jewish Encyclopedia, some later collected in his Legend and Lore. He was an important halakhic authority of the Conservative movement in North America; for a period of ten years (1917-1927), he was virtually the halakhic authority of this movement. [From Elliot Dorff's "Conservative Judaism: Our Ancestors to Our Descendants" and Pamela Nadell's "Conservative Judaism in America: A Biographical Dictionary and Sourcebook"] Zechariah Frankel (1801-1875), a respected scholar and rabbi, at one time was in the traditional wing of the nascent Reform movement. After the second Reform rabbinic conference (1845, Frankfurt, Germany) he resigned after coming to believe that their positions were exceedingly radical. In 1854 he became the head of a new rabbinical school, the Jewish Theological Seminary of Breslau. In his magnum opus Darkhei HaMishnah Rabbi Frankel amassed scholarly support which showed that Jewish law was not static, but rather had always developed in response to changing conditions. He called his approach towards Judaism 'Positive-Historical', which meant that one should accept Jewish law and tradition as normative, yet one must be open to changing and developing the law in the same historical fashion that Judaism has always historically developed. Frankel's essay "On changes in Judaism" is available here:

40. Parashat Korach
collection takes more time to explain Korach?s ill feeling towards Moshe thanthe work known as the Legends of the Jews by Louis Ginzberg (18731953).
http://www.heartofisrael.org/teachings/rabbi/Korach.htm
Back PARASHAH: Korach (Korah
ADDRESS: B'midbar (Numbers) 16:1-18:32
READING DATE: Shabbat
AUTHOR: Torah Teacher Ariel ben-Lyman HaNaviy
(Note: all quotations are taken from the Complete Jewish Bible , translation by David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., unless otherwise noted) Let’s begin with the opening blessing for the Torah: " Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn." (Blessed are you, O’ LORD, our God, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, LORD, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.) This is Parashat Korach . This is the telling of the story of the treason of Korach, son of a Levite, and that rebellious bunch which followed him. I call it treason owing to the fact that this attempt of Korach's was an attempt overthrow and replace the leadership of Moshe and Aharon. But a better-suited word might be mutiny! A summary of the story goes like this: Korach and followers from the leaders of 'Am Yisra'el challenge the authority of Moshe and Aharon, accusing the two brothers of "lording" over the people. Moshe's response is divine. He instructs them—nay challenges them to an authoritative proof-test. Since the human factor of choosing leadership is (in the eyes of Korach) obviously faulty, let God choose the appropriate man for the job!
