Mercy Otis Warren Between 1772 and 1805, Warren published at least five plays History of the Rise, Progress and Termination of the American Revolution and as well-timed propaganda. Her poetry, long neglected, is now being taken seriously by scholars. That she was committed to poetry as an art and as a vehicle for political and didactic themes is evidenced by the dozens of poems that, until recently, remained unpublished and by her numerous, careful revisions of her work. But the best of Warren is her prose, and the best of her prose is her

The Builder Magazine April 1921 - Volume VII - Number 4 Memorials to Great Men Who Were Masons GENERAL HENRY DEARBORN BY BRO. GEO. W. BAIRD, P.G.M., District of Columbia HENRY DEARBORN, physician, soldier, patriot and statesman, was one of those remarkable characters who covered much ground and did it well. He rose to the rank of Major General in the Army of the Revolution, and yet the rising generation probably can tell us less about him than they can about the champion boxer or the stroke oar in the college race crew. This Republic, which we hear lauded in many Fourth of July orations, owes as much to General Dearborn as it does to any division commander in the Revolutionary War. General Dearborn was born in New Hampshire, in 1751, of English ancestry, and died at Roxbury, Mass., in 1829, where he was buried. Past Grand Master Melvin M. Johnson, of Massachusetts, informs the writer that the remains of General Dearborn, and those of his wife, were removed to Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, in 1834. No memorial was erected to mark either burial site. Dearborn was a man of great endurance, powerful, enthusiastic and sanguine. When he learned of the Battle of Lexington he immediately organized a company of sixty men, marched to Lexington, making sixty-five miles the first day, but unfortunately arrived too late to get into the fight.

TIS AS A PROPHET. Otis was not much given to general speculations upon the future; but there is something very striking in the following language, taken from his pamphlet "The Rights of the Colonies," if we consider how soon after there occurred the two great crises in the world's affairs, the American and French revolutions. "I pretend neither to the spirit of prophecy, nor to any uncommon skill in predicting a crisis; much less to tell when it begins to be nascent, or is fairly midwived into the world. But I should say the world was at the eve of the highest scene of earthly power and grandeur, that has ever yet been displayed to the view of mankind. The cards are shuffling fast through all Europe. Who will win the prize is with God. This, however, I know, detur digniori. The next universal monarchy will be favorable to the human race; for it must be founded on the principles of equity, moderation, and justice." JAMES OTIS. [1725 - 1783.] By G. Mercer Adam[3]

MORE ON TAXES
I read with interest your response to the letter titled, " What About Taxes Bill Denman
Sagle, Idaho Editor's Response: You have made some good points. If we go ahead and accept the way most people interpret the text quoted, we still have direction. I just read the inscription on my money. It says, "In God we trust" and "The United States of America." I suppose, following Jesus' example, in some minds that would make the money belong to God and to the United States of America." Since we are a people of agreements, it stands to reason that if the nation stops trusting in God, then the other inscription is invalid as well.
I DIDN'T DO IT
I read recently your article "UN comes to focus". I do not know where you get your opinions on peace keeping but they could not be more misleading. I completed a one year tour with the UNIFIL in Lebanon and in there the humanitarian aid, such as food, water, rebuilding and other helping missions have to be protected by gunpoint just to make sure that they can be delivered to those who need it rather than to the warring sides. We NEVER, in training or otherwise, used force or threat against civilians. Jouni Hiltunen
Finland Editor's Response: When considering the human body, it is true that the little toe never pulls the trigger that takes a life. It is also true that the hip never sits on a couch and an eye never eats food. When the finger pulls the trigger and murders someone, however, the whole body goes to prison and is considered accountable. Mr. Clinton considers U.N. actions in Iraq right now as peace keeping.

The Line: Women, Partition and the Gender Order in Cyprus
by Cynthia Cockburn. New York: Zed Books, 2004, 244 pp., $25.00 paper. Reviewed by Ayse Gul Altinay Cynthia Cockburn's remarkably timely book, The Line , introduces a woman's group, Hands Across the Divide (HAD), which was set up in 2001 as the first Cypriot political organization that, by the device of constituting itself with a London postal address, legally has both southern and northern members. The book also includes interviews with women in both parts of the island who don't necessarily see themselves as political activists. Through their life stories and daily struggles, a very different picture of "the Cyprus problem" emerges. " The Line is a book about Cyprus as seen through women's eyes," says Cockburn. But that is not the whole story. At another level, equally inspiring, The Line is a book about new ways of imagining the connectedness of ethnic and gender conflicts, anti-militarism, and feminism. Cockburn continues the conversation she began in her earlier work The Space Between Us (1998), which examined women's across-the-line activism in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, and Israel/Palestine. In

The Hidden City PreExilic Jerusalem Located The PreBabylonian Jerusalem has remained hidden for thousands of years; prominent archaeologists admit they haven’t found it. Yet, Scripture and logic explain where it lays hidden. It’s the ancient Jebus, an early Canaanite City, with an historic castle that subsequently became the majestic royal palace for the world’s most famous kings: Saul, David, Solomon, and the many that followed them. It’s also the ancient site of the early Levitical City wherein the preserved Holy of Holies and other preserved inner recesses of the glorious Solomonic Temple await reentry. A colossal find! Even the abundant ancient records stored therein and the wealth of Temple treasures described in the intriguing Copper Scroll await recovery. But GOD’S Holy Ark is not there as the Prophet Jeremiah hid it before King Nebuchadnezzar attacked the City (Jeremiah 43:8-10; II Maccabees 2:4-8).
