The following names are indexed from "The Farthest Promised Land" by Professor Rollo Arnold of Victoria University, Wellington. This is a study of the English villagers who were a major element in the assisted immigration of the 1870s. Chapter 2 of this book is an excellent summary of the depressed condition of English agricultural workers by 1870. Indexed by Mike Foster, Wellington, 1993 I have my own copy of the book and can supply additional information on many of the people who are mentioned. *BRAGDEN, William - in reference from descendants the name is spelt incorrectly.

Mount View Cemetery records - G
The following records for Mount View Cemetery have been compiled from three sources: A typed record from 1947 on microfilm at the LDS library, a DAR list compiled by walking through the cemetery and writing down tomb stone markings and a cemetery list from Oak Lawn Cemetery. (Oak Lawn Cemetery was the first cemetery in Olean. All burials before 1900 would have been there. Since the area around Oak Lawn had become residential by the 1890's and the cemetery was in poor condition, all graves were removed to the then new Mount View Cemetery in 1906.)
All three cemeteries had similar listings, but each had records that the other did not, so combined this list seems to be more extensive. Any corrections or notations would gladly be accepted. The hard copy is housed with the Olean Historical and Preservation Society where the rest of the alphabet is currently being copied for use on the computer.

Surnames from landed families born before 1400 are often (not always) preceeded by either "de", "di", "l'", "la", "le", or "of" in the Index (i.e. "de Vere" instead of "Vere", and found under "D" rather than "V").
Titled individuals are referred to by their title (i.e. John Vere EARL of OXFORD is found under "E" rather than "V")

"The providence of God, which keeps up the generations of men, and so preserves that degenerate race, though guilty and obnoxious, in being upon earth. How easily could He cut it off without either a deluge or a conflagration! Were but all the children of men childless, as some are, and in a few years the earth will be eased of the burden under which it groans; but the divine patience lets the trees that cumber the ground not only grow, but propagate. As one generation, even of sinful men, passes away, another comes (Eccl 1:4; Num 32:14), and will do so while the earth remains. Destroy it not, for a blessing is in it." Matthew Henry
