WILLIAM, JR. (4) 1803 - 1858 m: SARAH M. MCCLELLAND HARRIS: Born March 3, 1803 in Ohio, died May 11, 1858 in Jasper County, Iowa. Married March 29, 1830 to Sarah M. McClelland in Adams County, Ohio. She was born about 1812 in Ohio, died May 4, 1891 in Jasper County, Iowa. After his marriage, William migrated from his native Ohio to Missouri, and from there to Iowa, settling in Jasper County in that state in 1846. All of William and Sarah's children were born before they came to Iowa. The family was enumerated living in District #16 of Jasper County, Iowa in the 1850 Census. That record listed William as being a farmer. In 1860, they were living in Newton in Jasper County, as shown in that year's Census. In the 1850 Census, Mary Jane, the first child, was shown as being born in Iowa, believed to have been an error, as she almost certainly was born in Ohio. The family was also recorded in an 1865 Jasper County, Iowa Census that did show Margaret, the second child, born in Ohio, and Samantha, the third child, born in Missouri. William and Sarah's last two children were also born in Missouri.

    The Civil War in Georgia
    Georgia 8th Infantry Regiment
      HISTORICAL NOTES:
The 8th Georgia Regiment was organized for the War in late May and early June, 1861. Most of the units' members had seen pre-War militia service. The regiment was mustered in at Camp Bartow, Howard's Grove, Richmond, Virginia in June of 1861. Francis S. Bartow was its first commander. The 8th Georgia participated in many engagements during the War, and was known as the "Fighting 8th." President Davis supposedly wrote: "The 8th is known." The 7th Georgia along with the 8th, 9th, 11th, and 59th made up Gen. 'Tige' Anderson's Brigade in Hood's Division of Longstreet's Corps. Henry Persons (hpersons@email.msn.com) is writing a regimental history of the 7th Ga.
