OAKLAND SECTION
(includes re-interments from Oakland Cemetery)
The First German Evangelical-Lutheran Cemetery (First Trinity after 1930) was located on the hill in Oakland and was locally referred to as the Oakland" cemetery, even on some maps.
"That property was purchased as the highest point on the then eastern boundary of the city so that our blessed dead might await the resurrection and be the first in the city to see the return of our Lord. The cemetery dates prior to 1847 when Pastor Godfrey Jensen died on February 19 of that year and was interred in "our Oakland cemetery" according to the church history. That cemetery was used solely by our congregation and was not a public cemetery up until the sale of the property c. 1962." Pastor Spittel, September, 2002

THOMAS(4) Abt. 1775-1859 Thomas was captured by Indians as a teenager. He would live with them in captivity for about six years. Born about 1775, in Berkeley Co., VA (now WV), he traveled as a young child with his parents, Richard Chenoweth and Peggy McCarty to what is now the Louisville area of Kentucky. On an errand to a mill in 1788, Tom disappeared, apparently taken by Indians. Many years later General George Rogers Clark negotiated his release. This account can be read along with other family events in Alfred Pirtle's 'Story of James', titled "The Chenoweth Massacre" CENSUS : 1800 KY: Jefferson Co (tax list), 1810 KY: Jefferson Co: page 19, 1820 IN: Jefferson Co: page 286, 1830 IN: Jefferson Co: Lancaster twp: page 78, 1840 IN: Clinton Co: page 388, 1850 IN: Clinton Co: Jackson twp, page 444 (widow, Mary) 1860 IN: Clinton Co: Jackson twp

Fairview Cemetery, Sagerton, Haskell Co. Texas Transcribed by: Dorothy Baitz Clark
Submitted by: Peggy Adler 2001.
Information gathered for this document by: Dorothy Baitz (Mrs Joe A ) Clark.
The cemetery was established: in 1890 on land donated by the G W Tanner family and consists of approximately two acres. Oldtimers say that when the cemetery was established there was probably a church and school there as well The cemetery is well-kept and is maintained by donations sent in by families of deceased members buried there and memorials given and is under the supervision of Joyce LeFevre (Mrs Delbert) and her assistants. At the center front of the cemetery there is a memorial placed by Mrs. Joe Frances (Whit) Clark which reads: Fairview Cemetery 1890 - 1982
To honor all those who rest here
Erected in remembrance of Whit Clark In 1970 it was noted that somewhere in Row "J" there was a graved marked as Alma Shelly or Shelby as well as a grave marked Ben Cobb B & D Dec 27 1945. In 2000 these graves are no longer marked The West side of the cemetery is considered the front. The graves are catalogued for this document by rows with Row "A" Lot "1" being located at the northwest corner of the cemetery.
