Captains of 1847 1) Capt. John William Bewley: party consisted of 36 wagons when it started out. Left Independence, MO on May 7, 1847. Capt. Bewley was elected the permanent Captain after a shakedown period of several days. Included in the party were the Isaac Bewley family, the Prettymans, the Youngs, and the Victor Wallace family. Several days out of Independence they were joined by a train of 35 wagons from Oskaloosa and a party of American Fur Company trappers bound for the Lakes. Five months and three days after leaving Independence they had their first view of the Columbia. On Oct 10, 1847 they camped at the mouth of the Umatilla and the next morning the party began to separate and follow different paths. Some of the members of the train chose to go to the Whitman Mission where they became embroiled in the Whitman Massacre [follow the links under Missionaries to learn more about this event]

DATE QUERY CONTACT ... WATSON / SHINN I am looking for death and burial information for my great grandfather, Robert Preston WATSON. he was living alone in Jewell County, Kansas on the 1920 US Census. I know that at one time he owned 1/4 section of land in Jewell County which was in my grandmother's name, Ethel WATSON, or Anna Ethel WATSON. I have not been able to find him. I am also looking for Carroll Amer SHINN, brother-in-law to Robert Preston WATSON. I know that Robert WATSON was living with Carroll SHINN and his family in 1900 and, I believe, in 1910. I have his death date but do not know where he is buried. They may be in the same place. Bonnie Rumford LUTZ I am looking for Daniel LUTZ, born c 1828, OH or PA, and wife, Mary, who were listed as living in Cawker City, KS, on the 1880 Census. The Political Graveyard: Important Notes: Please Read!
  • This web site is about U.S. political history and cemeteries. For convenient presentation of this material, the site includes a page for each of the more than 3,000 counties in the U.S., as well as for various U.S. and foreign territories and countries. The Political Graveyard has no official connection with any of those areas or governments. For more information about this project, please see the Main Page
  • The list of cemeteries here is not comprehensive, nor is it intended to be. This site only lists about 5,000 cemeteries where politicians are known to have been buried (the number grows gradually as more research is done). There are an estimated cemeteries in the United States. The closest thing to a complete list is the U.S. Geological Survey's GNIS database , which lists about 109,000 cemeteries. See also

Presented by Sylvain Cazalet CHAPTER I
THE WESTERN COLLEGE OF HOMŒOPATHIC MEDICINE.
By David Herrick Beckwith, M. D., Cleveland, Ohio. The feasibility of establishing a homœopathic college in Cleveland was discussed by the physicians of the new school of medicine in the west in May, 1849, though no definite action was taken. June 9 of the same year a circular was issued by T. V. Morrow, dean of the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati, in part as follows : "Resolved : That we invite the homœopathic physicians of the United States, and of the west especially, to unite in recommending and nominating a professor to fill the chair of homœopathy in the Eclectic Medical Institute." Just what the strong personality of Dr. Rosa and the stronger truths of homœopathy in influencing the eclectic students toward homœopathy had to do with the decision of the board of trustees is not for us to say. Meanwhile a college was being formed in Cleveland. March 20, 1859, a meeting of the physicians of the west was held at the Dunham house, now the Forest City house, at which an organization was effected with John H. Wheeler, M. D., president ; A. H. Burritt, M. D., vice-president ; Earl Tiffany, secretary, and Dudley Baldwin, treasurer. June 21, of the same year, the trustees presented a plan for formal organization, with a course of study for the session of 1850-1851. The following faculty was chosen :

    Navarro County, Texas Marriage Record, Vol. 4 (April 9, 1881 - August 27, 1885) (Microfilm #1034859)
This table includes the known African-American marriage entries found in Volume 4 of the marriage records. Some of the entries were hard to read; I transcribed them as best as I could, and added (?) as needed. Listings that are in bold print are those of confirmed relatives; listings in bold italic print are those of my direct ancestors. If you see a possible connection to one of those highlighted entries, please contact me at blk3953@yahoo.com
Some of the marriage certificates had extra notes written on them. Most of the notes were names of people that a copy of the certificate was mailed to, but some of the notes dealt specifically with the soon-to-be-married couple. Whenever possible, I've included such notes as a clickable link on that couple's entry. Any extra information about the names in bold italic print (my direct ancestors) will also be included in a clickable link.
A listing of Texas county microfilmed records is available on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission web page.
