Interviews with Angie Debo, 1981-1985
Collection # 85-013 Prepared by Mildred L. Jackson Go to the Debo Interviews Subject Index Between 1981 and 1985, Dr. Gloria Valencia-Weber and Dr. Glenna Matthews, both faculty members at Oklahoma State University at the time, conducted 17 interviews with Dr. Angie Debo. The interviewers developed questions that covered many aspects of Dr. Debo's life and philosophy. Included in the interviews are discussions of her writing and relationship with publishers, her family and hometown, her employment, her work on establishing Indian land and water rights, and on the history of Oklahoma. These interviews are an important source of information for Angie Debo's philosophies on several topics. Gloria Valencia-Weber was a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Oklahoma State University at the time the interviews were conducted. She received a master's degree from Oklahoma State University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. She met Angie Debo while both were working for the Oklahoma American Civil Liberties Union. Dr. Valencia-Weber served as Director of the Indian Law Certificate Program at the University of New Mexico School of Law from 1994 until Fall 2002. She remains at the University of New Mexico teaching as a full tenured professor. Glenna Matthews possesses history degrees from San Jose State (B.A.) and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. Her first academic position was in the History Department at Oklahoma State University. She continued her academic career at the University of California, Berkeley. Matthews is the author of "Just a Housewife" The Rise and Fall of Domesticity in America (Oxford UP, 1987), The Rise of Public Woman: Woman's Power and Woman's Place in the United States, 1630-1970 (Oxford UP, 1992), and co-author of Running as a Woman: Gender and Power in American Politics (The Free Press, 1994).

The Fantasy Fan
REH to Charles D. Hornig, 1 November 1933: "Thanks for the copy of The Fantasy Fan. I found it very interesting, and think it has a good future. Anybody ought to be willing to pay a dollar for the privilege of reading, for a whole year, the works of Lovecraft, Smith, and Derleth. I am glad to see that you announce a poem by Smith in the next issue. He is a poet second to none. I also hope you can persuade Lovecraft to let you use some of his superb verse. Weird poetry possesses an appeal peculiar to itself and the careful use of it raises the quality of any magazine. ¶ I liked very much the department of 'True Ghost Stories' and hope you will continue it. The world is full of unexplained incidents and peculiar circumstances, the logical reasons of which are often so obscure and hidden that they are lent the illusion of the supernatural. ¶ Enclosed find my check for a year's subscription. I shall be glad to submit some things, if you wish."

This is the second part of a bibliography in three parts on Wisconsin Women's History. The bibliography is number 16 of the series WISCONSIN BIBLIOGRAPHIES IN WOMEN'S STUDIES published by the University of Wisconsin System Women's Studies Librarian's Office, 430 Memorial Library, 728 State Street, Madison, WI 53706; 608-263-5754; email: the Women's Studies Librarian Included below are citations to women who spent a significant portion of their lives in Wisconsin. In addition to these citations, the Wisconsin Magazine of History in its early volumes (in the 1920s) frequently carried reminiscences by women of growing up in Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Alumni Magazine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison frequently spotlighted women graduates. The Wisconsin Alumni Magazine is fully available online through the University of Wisconsin Digital Collection. Select it from the drop-down menu on the search page at http://libtext.library.wisc.edu/UW/Search.html , or browse individual issues via . Several books on the history of women at the University of Wisconsin have been digitized by the UW Libraries. They include essays on individual professors, as well as programs, departments, and organizations. There are also numerous privately published family histories and genealogies available in the Wisconsin Historical Society Library and elsewhere (the subject heading "WisconsinBiography" retrieves them). Women born in Wisconsin who left the state in early childhood and went on to prominence in other places are generally not listed on this bibliography.
