Demand Evaluation cont'd (asynchronous operations)
After writing my last blog entry I realized that I mentioned that asynchronous operations cause demand evaluation to be more complicated than it would at first appear but I did not go on to explain how we handle that complication in the system. I’ll try to do that now. As I mentioned previously, at the time of an asynchronous operation the system captures the security context on the thread. When that asynchronous operation is evaluated, the captured security context is appended to that thread.

Tracking Fee
Thursday, November 6, at noon, U.S. Eastern time
What changes should the U.S. Department of Homeland Security make to its proposal to collect a fee from international students for the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, or Sevis, the federal database that tracks them?
The Department of Homeland Security announced last month that it would start charging a $100 fee to international students and visiting scholars to pay for Sevis. The charge is necessary because the law that created Sevis said that fees, not federal appropriations, would bear its operating costs. The fee would pay for system maintenance and for department officers who would work with colleges to make sure that international students arrived on campuses as promised, did not drop out, and met the conditions of their student visas. Foreign students would have to pay the fee before applying for or renewing their visas.
College officials have worried that such a high fee might bar international students from poor countries. The students already must pay a $100 visa-processing fee to the Department of State and a visa-issuance fee determined by their country of origin. The officials also fear that the proposed policy would discriminate against foreign students from countries where access to credit cards and reliable mail systems is limited. Although the Homeland Security Department has said it would collect the fee, some college officials believe that the U.S. Department of State should do so when foreign students apply for visas.

Chicago Magazine called Greg “corporate America’s favorite funnyman.” Washington Techway Magazine called his show “a welcome refreshing change.” His blend of stand-up comedy and motivational speaking was recently spotlighted in American Corporate Entertainment Magazine. Greg and his show, “Comedy With a Byte,” is the perfect choice for your next special event! Greg takes a light-hearted look at the latest technologies and the way business is conducted today. Laugh along with Greg and his views on cell phone addiction, acronyms, “frequently” asked questions, boring business meetings, tedious PowerPoint presentations, technical support lines and that annoying guy in every office who can’t stop sending two-word emails. In addition to stand-up comedy, Greg is available as an emcee and can also script and star in custom videos for your next event.
Programs - Comedy With a Byte - Laughter Never Needs an Upgrade Recommendations "The feedback I received from the entire group was that you were one of the best comedians that they have ever seen. Not only did you keep them in stitches for over an hour, you brilliantly customized the program to identify with their industry and with our company. It was obvious that you prepared for the performance and did your homework. Overall, it was a five star performance and I would recommend you to anyone."

RSS "security"
I was on a call the other day with some folks in the industry, and someone made a comment to the effect of "we really need to come up with some kind of solution for securing RSS feeds - then we can really do some cool stuff." Before I could get on my soapbox, someone else on the call concurred with the first person. When I mentioned that this stuff has been figured out already, and started describing the existing widely-used mechanisms, they were both a bit surprised, and suggested I write something about it. So here we go. :-) There has been much talk about "RSS security". The problem is, that's such a vague term, and you can't really make much progress until you actually break that down into what you really mean. So let's give that a shot.

Gallatin Canyon Lower Gallatin Map The East Gallatin River near Bozeman (above) is a productive tributary of the Gallatin River. The Gallatin is a well-known and heavily fished stream that, regardless of those pitfalls, offers three species of trout that willingly smack dry flies and nymphs in one of the most beautiful and rugged portions of the Treasure State. The Gallatin has 120 miles of appealing trout water, including a delicate upper portion that flows through lush meadows, a roily middle section that cuts through a spectacular, heavily forested mountain canyon, and a lower stretch that twists across a broad valley before meeting the Jefferson and Madison rivers at Three Forks. Lewis and Clark named all three rivers in July 1805, when the Corps of Discovery reached the spot where the three forks combine to form the fabled Missouri River. Greg Thomas is the Western Field Editor for Fly Fisherman. He lives in Ennis, Montana.

Greg is a strong advocate of Continuing Education credits for Certified Financial Planners; he normally earns more than twice the Continuing Education credits required for Certified Financial Planners. Greg has been a frequent lecturer and provider of Continuing Education credits to other Certified Financial Planners. Greg began his Financial Planning career with IDS Financial Services/American Express and was named Financial Planner of the Year in 1987. Receiving this distinction indicated he wrote the most plans featuring the greatest complexities. While he excelled in this commission environment, Greg found the conflict of interest from commissions to be unfulfilling. Desiring a shift to a fee-oriented practice, Greg developed a Financial Planning practice for a CPA firm in Lima, Ohio. He was later promoted to President of that firm's Financial Planning division. Greg has also been invited to speak at various national and regional NAPFA conferences regarding the Initial Financial Overview process he has pioneered. In 1999 Greg was asked by the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) to help develop a test that all Investment Advisors and Financial Planners in the 50 states must pass in order to be licensed by their state. He has also been invited on several occasions by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Governors to assist with reviewing and writing questions for the Comprehensive test given to CFP candidates.
