Home About Genii Products ... Weblog TTW ("Through the Web") WYSIWYG Web Editors - The List This list of WYSIWYG rich text web editors is being maintained as a general resource for developers who want to add a richer editing experience to web based applications. In order to be included, all editors must work in place in a browser window, either by replacing a textarea or by adding their own editable fragment. WYSIWYG page designers that live outside the web page are in a different category. This resource is a living document, and we always welcome comments and updates. Please let us know if you have any comments, additional information or corrections. While we list both open source and commercial editors in the tables below, we do not endorse or guarantee your results with any editor.
Note: A good deal of the material in this list came from a list originally maintained by Paul Browning which was located at http://www.bris.ac.uk/is/projects/cms/ttw/ttw.html . Paul Browning has asked if I could continue maintaining this list, as he no longer has the time, and is no longer connected to the University of Bristol. I greatly appreciate the time and effort that he put into collecting this information, and will continue to host it and update it.
Notes/Domino Users: While I hope this list is useful to everybody, there will also be some additional information specific to IBM Lotus Domino developers, including sample databases that have these editors integrated, and which therefore are available for anyone to copy and use, as well as an indication of those web editors which have been integrated with Genii Software's

We've tried to maintain most of the original structure of the site, which models the way the humanities are organized for research and teaching as well as the way they are adapting to social, cultural, and technological changes. But some shifts in organization and navigation are necessary for technical reasons. ( Navigating and Bookmarking VoS Important : the new VoS is still a work in progress, but we have turned it on because it is already more functional than the original site. There are still some mis-orderings of categories and author names that we are fixing as we convert our legacy resources. We've also temporarily removed as many of the broken links as we could find and will restore them when we can (or find substitutes). Some categories have thus been temporarily decimated. Katrina hurricane: citizens initiatives replace newspapers initiatives
At this weblog, we were very admirative of the work done by newspapers in Louisiana, especially the New Orleans Times-Picayune . For instance the "missing persons list" was launched very quickly by the newspaper and it is a remarkable initiative. But I think to two other consequences: 1) If the goal of newspapers is not only to provide news, but to serve their communities, why have we seen so many "missing persons lists" and why were big newspapers in the US unable to organize any common initiative? It was a poor conception of competition that prevailed, when so many citizens initiatives appeared (see below). 2) How many developers and online specialists are working in newspapers or media companies? Why were they unable to set up any original "community content"? Has imagination deserted the online newsrooms?

Greenberg Settlement
Many of our members have been contacted regarding a class action lawsuit filed against many of the employers and payroll companies (Bill Greenberg, et al. v. EP Management Services, LP, et al.). The Editors Guild is not a party to this lawsuit. If you believe that you may be entitled to any money resulting from this lawsuit, please visit www.motionpicturesettlement.com or call (866) 686-8704 for further information. Editor's Guild Organizes Reality Workers By Jack Egan The Motion Picture Editors Guild has scored one of its biggest victories to date in its ongoing campaign to represent postproduction workers on reality television shows, an area where other guilds have largely failed to make inroads. Local 700 of the International Alliance of Stage and Theatrical Employees in early August announced it had organized nearly 80 editors and their assistants on three series from the stable of reality television kingpin Mark Burnett Productions: The Apprentice; The Apprentice: Martha Stewart; and Rock Star: INXS. Because the three shows were structured as separate companies, they had to be organized individually. At the end of July, a neutral third party verified that a majority of each show’s postproduction professionals had signed union authorization cards, setting the stage for contract talks. "We are pleased that Mark Burnett Productions will respect the choice these people have made to have the Editors Guild represent them, and we look forward to negotiating a fair and equitable contract," said Ron Kutak, executive director of MPEG.

News Vim 6.3.086 is the current version
Vim 7 with spell checking (still alpha!)
Spell checking has been added. This happens while redrawing, like with syntax highlighting. The code and data structures have been optimized to make spell checking very fast. Vim can give you suggestions to correct spelling errors. This is partly based on Aspell and works well: in two out of three cases the first suggestion is the word you will want to use. The word lists from OpenOffice.org an be used, thus there is immediate support for many languages. Vim uses its own spell file format, which is much more compact and loads faster. You can either build your own spell file or get them from the ftp site . All this is still an alpha version! It appears to work fine, but keep in mind that command syntax, option names, etc. may still change. (

http://www.magazinewriters.com/
The conference was greatI raved about the writers and story ideas to my boss upon returning. Keith Kloor, editor, Audubon This was my first time at One-on-One, and I'll definitely be back. This is the best opportunity I've experienced to learn first-hand about the specific needs of different markets, while having the opportunity to meet and socialize with editors and very accomplished writers. The value of the networking opportunities far exceeds the cost of the conference. It was a great experience. New Jersey freelance writer Gwen Moran I think the thing I've found most valuable about One-on-One is the opportunity to learn in-depth info on magazines that I never thought I'd ever pitch. Alsoit provides the rare chance to discuss an idea in its earliest stages with an editor, which only boosts the sales potential. New York freelance writer Alison Stein Wellner

magazine writers and editors is coming
