The Church of Christ, Scientist; Christian Science 2. Founder: Mary Baker Eddy 3. Dates of Birth and Death: July 16, 1821 - December 3, 1910 4. Birthplace: Bow, New Hampshire 5. Year Founded: The Church of Christ, Scientist was founded in 1879. Eddy's book , Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures , first appeared in 1875. 6. Brief History: The Church of Christ, Scientist, was designed to "reinstate primitive Christianity," to reduce and relieve illness and to heal sin, as the early Christians did. The Church was founded by Mary Baker Eddy. Mary Morse Baker was raised in a strict, deeply religious New England Congregationalist home, from which she derived her lifelong interest in Christianity and the Bible. She had been plagued with ill health, as well as several tragedies, through her childhood and into adult years. Her revered and deeply religious mother, her favorite brother, and her husband all died in short succession, and she suffered through a forced separation from her son because of her recurring ill health. She remarried in 1853 to Dr. Daniel Patterson, an itinerant dentist, in an unsuccessful attempt to gain control of her son who had been placed in another home by her family in the belief that she was physically incapable of caring for him. This marriage eventually ended in divorce. In 1877 she would marry Asa Gilbert Eddy, one of the early students of Christian Science, and she would eventually adopt the name by which she is most commonly remembered: Mary Baker Eddy.

Mary Baker Eddy
Mary Baker was born in Bow, New Hampshire in 1821. She was very sick as a child and was unable to attend school, so she was educated at home by her older brother. At a young age, she began publishing her own poetry in periodicals.
As an adult, she remained ill until meeting Dr. Phineas Quimby, who introduced her to mental healing. Mary believed that the cause and cure of all diseases are mental, which led to the founding of the Christian Science Publishing Company. She then published her beliefs in a book entitled Science and Health She also founded and became the editor of the Journal of Christian Science In 1879, the First Church of Christ, Scientist was formally chartered and Mary served as the head. She taught hundreds of students, mostly female, to spread the word about Christian Science and to recruit new members.
Mary Baker Eddy was the only American woman to found a lasting American-based religion. She has won 6 Pulitzer Prizes for her publications and her Science and Health was voted “one of the 75 books by women whose words have changed the world” by the National Women’s Book Association.

Curse of the Pharaoh End-of-the-World Prophecies Index ... Z At long last we're able to get this Encyclopedia up online. It's created with David Joffe 's dictionary compilation software TshwaneLex , and it's a labor of love on the part of my good friend Gilles-Maurice de Schryver . We are very grateful for their generous donation of talent, time, and dedication. Thank you, folks. When I decided to place the entire text of "An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural" on the Internet, it was suggested to me that this could cut into the sales of the printed version. However, experience has shown that, in the publishing business, making a book available on the Internet only stimulates sales of the actual book! Another mystery. As with all of my books, I dropped in a few jokes. I had a hard time getting these jokes accepted by St. Martin's Press, the original publishers. However, now that it's on the Internet, I not only can make sure that the full force of my wit is felt, but I can add new ones in response to my latest whims. Seriously, if you find errors here, I urge you to notify me and they will be promptly corrected. I must tell you that there is also a UK edition of this book, titled, "The Supernatural, A to Z." It was very interesting for me to compare the two editions, especially in view of the differing "sense of humor" we find in the UK. As an example, in the entry under "

Mary Baker Eddy exhibit scheduled at New Mexico State University Library
A touring exhibit telling the life story of 19th century thinker and reformer Mary Baker Eddy will be installed at the New Mexico State University Library in October. The exhibit, titled “‘This is woman’s hour …’ The Life of Mary Baker Eddy,” will be available for public viewing on the second-floor balcony of Branson Library Oct. 1-12. Created by The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy organization of Boston, the exhibit is a smaller version of a large multi-media exhibit that was first shown at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, N.Y. The large exhibit, being shown in September and October at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, has been traveling throughout the United States since 1998. Mary Baker Eddy lived 1821-1910. She was part of the women’s reform movement challenging mainstream thinking in regards to health-care and religion, and proved through her life that a woman could be a thinker and an entrepreneur. She is best known for founding The Christian Science Monitor and as the author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The exhibit portrays Eddy as a healer, thinker and reformer. Her unexpected recovery from an accident provided the impetus for her pioneering work in mind-body healing. As a thinker, along with certain other women of her generation such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she questioned the subordinate role of women in American society. As a reformer, she lectured, published, and founded a church, a college and a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper.

Emanuel Swedenborg, 1688-1772
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, he was the son of a nobleman of high standing. Swedenborg was highly educated and moved in the highest society. He traveled extensively, and conversed with the most learned men of the age. The king appointed him to a high office, which he filled superbly for over thirty years. He rose to eminence in science and wrote 77 books, covering every branch of science. He was of the purest character and devoutly religious. At the age of 55 he began to have visions of heaven, hell, angels, and the spiritual world. He says: "I have been called to a holy office by the Lord himself, who most mercifully appeared to me, his servant, in the year 1743, when he opened my sight into the spiritual world and enabled me to converse with spirits and angels." This work he continued for 30 years, and wrote about 30 "inspired" volumes. He made remarkable predictions which, it is claimed, were exactly fulfilled. He founded a new religion based upon his revelations. The Bible is sacredly taught and holy living promoted. The church Swedenborg founded has steadily increased, till it has societies in all parts of the world and in the leading languages. His followers believe in him just as implicitly as Seventh-day Adventists believe in Ellen White, and are very zealous in propagating their faith. To learn more about him and the church he founded

Back to American Women introduction Mary Baker Eddy While lying in bed severely disabled from a fall in 1866, Mary Baker Eddy read the biblical account of Christ's healing of a man's paralysis. Suddenly her own malady eased, and she was overcome with a belief in faith's healing powers. As she later put it, she "had touched the hem of Christian Science." In the years following, she gradually evolved a religious system that held that the human spirit, properly guided by Christian principles, could overcome physical suffering. In 1875, she presented her convictions to the world in Science and Health , and four years later she formally established the Church of Christ, Scientist. The church had few followers at first, but by the early 1900s, adherents to Christian Science numbered into the many thousands and were spread throughout the world. While Eddy was posing for this portrait over a three-week period in 1889, she worked on a revised version of Science and Health . The bust's maker, Luella Varney, had been trained in Italy and included among her sitters Mark Twain and Julia Ward Howe

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
We have chosen the color of green vomit for this cult. Christian Science is like grape nuts neither grapes nor nuts. I would say though that someone has to be nuts to go for this trash. The cult was started by Mary (Baker) Eddy Glover Patterson (Fry) a four time loser at marriage. Never mind her followers think that this kind of failure is actually a strength. The cult has been failing slowly in recent years, and its TV and radio voice is dwindling. The Christian Science Monitor is perhaps the single most God hating newspaper in the world, and it exalts all manner of Communist and socialist activity. It is needed that we include this pagan religion though, since there are so many folks who give it dignity. We will do everything possible to expose its puerile and blasphemous stench charitably of course. :-)
MARY BAKER EDDY GLOVER PATTERSON (FRY)
Theme song of Christian Science is "Looney Tunes Theme." Why? Answer: Mary Bake Eddy spent her last years in a state of looney mental chaos. She had to be locked in a crib by her husband every night when she went to bed. There, in her looney wonderland, she contemplated the power of positive insanity. Here is the official brief history of this lady according to the Christian Science sources: Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910), the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, is widely recognized outside her Church as probably the most remarkable religious figure of modern times.
