WEST WINFIELD CEMETERY
Town of Winfield
Herkimer County, N.Y.
This cemetery is located in "downtown" West Winfield on the south side of West Main St. (US Route 20). It is a very large and still active cemetery. According to the director of the Herkimer County Historical Society , this reading was done by George Hildebrandt, a volunteer there some years ago who is still active at the society. Only dates up to 1930 were taken at the time which explains some of the s. The reading was obtained from the files of the Historical Society and transcribed as originally typed. In a few instances [] were added to indicate the editor's awareness that some data didn't quite match, but entered as printed or to give additional information relating to persons allied to the editor's own family. This is a great list with lots of maiden names.

New institutional economics of the environment : conceptual foundations and policy implications

Abstract : This paper reviews literature in and around new institutional economics to assess its contributions to, and limitations in, research on environmental decision-making and governance. The paper also proposes ways to increase the fruitfulness of new institutional approach for environmental research. The paper identifies the conceptualisation of environmental problems as instances of interdependence and the acknowledgement of positive transaction costs as the hallmarks of new institutional approach to the environment.

"There's no such thing as a boring life." Mark Twain New York 9th Heavy Artillery Roster List supplied by Betty Auten (who died after supplying A's-M's)and 9th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery (N's-Z's) Betty undertook the enormous task of compiling a list of all New York Civil War Veterans (as well as other wars). Here is her note to you: My name is Betty Auten.I was historian for Seneca County, NY for 20 years and have been historian for Town of Waterloo for 30 years. As such I became interested in learning about the Civil War soldiers; first those from the immediate area but as I discovered more resource material, I spread out over all of New York State. I now have about 150,000 men in the collection and continue to add more each day. You asked about certain abbreviations. I will copy the letter which heads my collection It contains all the abbreviations. This is a collection of men who served from New York State, settled in other states after the war and men who served in other states and settled in New York State after the war. It is an attempt to identify as many of the brave men who served and hopefully help to straighten out some of the records which because of any reason a man was erroneously listed as deserter, missing, dead or any other cause. By attempting to collect each man from every record, such errors can be recognized. It is with great empathy and affection I assemble this collection for the descendents of those heroes of our past. AN INTRODUCTION TO GALLATIN COUNTY, EARLY GATEWAY TO SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND CENTER OF THE EARLY SALTMAKING INDUSTRY Except for occasional travelers, hunters or soldiers who crossed this way, the first white people who came to Gallatin County were probably those who came to the Half Moon Lick located about one mile West or up the Saline River, or the Salt Spring three miles SE or down river from Equality to evaporate or trade for salt. Whether they were here a short or longer time depended upon whether they came only for their own needs or for trade or sale to others. The Shawnee Indians of this area were in and out and usually cooperative and friendly. The territorial government began to take note of the importance of the salines about 1800, and on March 3, 1803, congress authorized the leasing of the licks and spring. During the same year territorial Governor Harrison negotiated a treaty with the Indians and then leased the salines to a Capt. Bell of Ky. (See the Salines of Southern Ill. by Prof. Geo. W. Smith)
