Hampton United Methodist Church
According to a history published in 1882 and believed to have been written by Reverend Jacob Franklin Spalding, carver of the wooden dove still atop the church steeple, Methodism was introduced into Hampton in 1835. The history of the early years of the church is related in Joseph Dow’s History of the Town of Hampton In 1848, when Reverend Henry Nutter was pastor, a building lot was secured at the corner of Ann’s Lane and Lafayette Road and a church was dedicated in November of that year. It cost $1,200 and served as a place of worship until the fall of 1881, when it was moved to its present location closer to the center of Hampton. It was remodeled and repaired at a cost of $3,100 and rededicated on January 5, 1882. In 1926, a kitchen and two classrooms were added and a new pipe organ was installed. The Methodist Sunday School commenced in May 1837, when Reverend Mr. Fuller called the people together and spoke to them about the importance of the study of God’s Word. Some 20 or more came forward and divided themselves into classes, with Jonathan Towle as superintendent. During the pastorate of Reverend Norman T. Allers, 1954-61, membership of the church increased, and the rapid growth of the Sunday School necessitated two sessions. In January 1957, a planning committee was established with Elton B. Smith as chairman.

Making The Whole World England
Marian Kester Coombs
Peter Jackson, director of the rapturously received Lord of the Rings trilogy, has quipped that the project amounted to "a bunch of Kiwis using American money to make a very English film." To be more exact, the Fellowship of the Ring was impersonated by four Brits, three Yanks, a Scot, and a Welshman. The Elves were mostly Aussies, as were Eomer and Eowyn, the lord and lady of Rohan. Luminous faces all. Dear old Bilbo Baggins was a Brit, as were the noble Theoden, the evil wizard Saruman, and the beastly Gollum. Behind the scenes, the director, screenwriters, costumers, special effects gurus, and such (the "Cultural Fighting Styles Designer," for example) were indeed mostly Kiwis. The Oscar-winning score was written by a Canadian and an Irishwoman; the Oscar-winning song by the same Canadian and a Scotswoman. The art direction was in the hands of a Yank and a Brit, and so on—a veritable "gorgeous mosaic" of Albion's far-flung seed. The Fellowship of the Ring opened in theaters to similar rousing, cheering, inspirational effect. A "special relationship," indeed. But although England seemed to be salving the particular wounds of America at these times, the appeal of the Beatles and Tolkien was and remains a worldwide phenomenon; no other nation has produced cultural symbols of remotely comparable potency.

He joined the Spanish army, then traveled extensively, working at a wide variety of jobs. Returning to Jamaica in 1932, he became active in the labor movement, gaining prominence with his flaming oratory, and founded the country's largest trade union. After being jailed (1941–42) as a rabble-rouser, he formed (1943) the Jamaica Labour party, a relatively conservative group that attracted right-wing support. He was chief minister (1953–55) and became prime minister in Apr., 1962; independence within the Commonwealth of Nations was achieved that August. A flamboyant leader, he maintained close relations with the United States and launched an ambitious five-year program of public works and land reform. Illness caused him to retire from politics in 1967. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1955. Wikipedia Alexander Bustamante Sir William Alexander Clarke Bustamante

Coombs Memorial Cemetery is a relatively new cemetery in the town of Placentia. It is owned and operated by the Coombs Funeral Home. This is a modern, meticulously groomed cemetery located in Southeast Placentia. It is easily accessible by car and is immediately adjacent to the main road as it leaves Placentia. The headstones are arranged systematically in rows, with the headstones mounted on a continuous concrete footing. The rows of headstones are separated by well manicured lawns. These headstones were read, recorded and transcribed by FRANK KING and HEATHER KING , July 2000. While we have endeavored to be as correct as humanly possible, there could be some typographical errors.
