William J. Clinton
Forty-Second President 1993-
[Hillary Rodham Clinton]
Fast Fact: William Clinton promised a brighter tomorrow and focused on the national economy. Biography: William J. Clinton, at 46 the youngest man elected President since John F. Kennedy, came to the White House pledging to end the era of drift and deadlock and begin a new season of American renewal. In an address before Congress on the 29th day of his Presidency, he outlined a bold strategy to lift the economy through increased public and private investment while cutting $500 billion from the Federal deficit. The next day he began promoting his "new direction" to the people through television appearances and rallies, thus by-passing entrenched special interests in Washington. The tactic was a reprise of his successful campaign, using modern communications to brush aside Democratic challengers and best a Republican incumbent. President Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, three months after his father died in a traffic accident. When he was four years old, his mother wed Roger Clinton of Hot Springs, Arkansas. In high school young William took the family name. He excelled as a student and as a saxophone player. Frequently during his political career he has delighted listeners with an impromptu session on the sax. As a delegate to Boys Nation while in high school, he met President Kennedy in the White House Rose Garden. The encounter inspired him to enter a life of public service.

in full WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON, original name WILLIAM JEFFERSON BLYTHE III, byname BILL CLINTON (b. Aug. 19, 1946, Hope, Ark., U.S.), American politician who became the 42nd president of the United States in 1993. He was elected to a second term in 1996. Bill Clinton's father, William Jefferson Blythe II, died in an automobile accident before his son was born. Blythe's widow married Roger Clinton, and Bill eventually took the latter's name. Bill Clinton graduated from Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.) in 1968 with a degree in international affairs and then attended the University of Oxford as a Rhodes scholar for two years. He graduated from the Yale University Law School in 1973 and joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas School of Law that same year. Clinton directed the presidential campaign of Democratic candidate George McGovern (1972) in Texas and that of Jimmy Carter (1976) in his home state, and in 1974 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected attorney general of Arkansas in 1976, and in 1978 he was elected governor, becoming at age 32 the youngest governor the nation had seen in 40 years. After an eventful two-year term as governor, Clinton failed in his reelection bid in 1980 but regained the governor's office in 1982, after which he was successively reelected three more times by substantial margins. A pragmatic Democrat, he reformed Arkansas' neglected educational system and encouraged the growth of industry in his state through favourable tax policies.

The Early Years
Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IV in Hope, Arkansas on August 19, 1946. He was born three months after his father was killed in an automobile accident. He was left with his grandparents while his mother went back to school to become a nurse-anesthetist. In his first years of life Clinton spent a great deal of time in his grandfather's grocery store, in a racially mixed neighborhood. In 1950 Clinton's mother married Roger Clinton, and the family moved to Hot Springs. Clinton was officially adopted by his step-father, and assumed his name. Clinton grew up in comfortable middle class environment. Unfortunately his step-father was an alcoholic who was prone to violence. Clinton was an super-achiever in school, and participated in many extra-curricula activities. In 1963 Clinton was sent as the Arkansas representative to Boy's Nation a leadership training program in Washington. There he visited the White House and shook hands with President Kennedy. Clinton claims from that moment on, he decided on a career in politics. In 1964 Clinton, began college, at Georgetown University in Washington DC. While studying at Georgetown, Clinton worked part-time for Senator Fulbright of Arkansas. On graduating in 1968 with a degree in International Relations Clinton received a prestigious Rhodes scholarship to study in Oxford England.

Bill Clinton
America's First Black President
In a 1998 essay in the New Yorker , author Toni Morrison described Clinton as "our first black president. Blacker than any actual person who could ever be elected in our children's lifetime." She went on to say: Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness: single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, McDonald's -and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas. This is just another reason that the Republicans absolutely hated Clinton. "He's getting votes from the minorities just for being poor white trash fercrissakes!" He drove them utterly apeshit. The Republican leadership of the House could barely conceal their contempt for the man in their photo ops and press conferences. As far as they were concerned, Clinton was nothing more than a smarmy hick, the former governor of a backwater southern state, and corrupt as fuck. A guy that even had to lie about not inhaling In 1994, conservative religious whore Jerry Falwell released the straight-to-video documentary "The Clinton Chronicles: An Investigation into the Alleged Criminal Activities of Bill Clinton." The preacher aired excerpts from the tape on his weekly television show

Summary of Religious Views:
Quotations: "Sometimes I think the environment in which we operate is entirely too secular. The fact that we have freedom of religion doesn't mean we need to try to have freedom from religion. It doesn't mean that those of us who have faith shouldn't frankly admit that we are animated by the faith, that we try to live by it, and that it does affect what we feel, what we think, and what we do. "On the other hand, it is very important that, as Americans, we approach this whole area with a certain amount of humility, that we be careful when we say that because we seek to know and do God's will, God is on our side and therefore against our opponent. That is important for two reasons. One is, we might be wrong. [Laughter] After all, we're only human. The other is that the thing that has kept us together over time is that our Constitution and Bill of Rights gives us all the elbow room to seek to do God's will in our own life and that of our families and our communities, and that means that there will be inevitable conflicts; so that there will never be a time when everything that we think is wrong can also be illegal. There will always be some space there because there will have to be some room for Americans of good faith to disagree." Remarks at a White House Interfaith Breakfast, 30 August 1993
