Clay County, South Dakota
T95N R51W Section 18 Contributed by Brian Hass, Oct 14, 2004 [ brian_m_hass@hotmail.com ]. Total records = 466. The Komstad Cemetery is located west of the church, which is on the west side of the University Road (Clay County's 465th Avenue), two and a half miles south of Highway 46 (Clay County's 297th Street). The cemetery is located west of and on the opposite side of the road from the Southeast South Dakota Experimental Farm.
Komstad Cemetery is very well maintained as is still in use. The cemetery is surrounded by a fence, with three gates on the east side. The northern and southern borders are 56.5 yards in length; and, the western and eastern borders are 117 yards in length. The cemetery's northern border is marked by ten evergreens in addition to a couple of other trees; and, its western border is marked by twelve evergreens in addition to five other trees. Only a single tree was located on the cemetery's southern border; and, none were located on the eastern border. Most of the cemetery was filled with graves.
October 23, 1874, the first recorded meeting of the Komstad Covenant Church occurred. On May 6, 1875, five acres of land was offered as a gift for building the church; and, Hans Quarnberg donated timber for the sills.

Jon "Bingo" Berta 'Takes Five'
He's the top tap-tender at Summerfest tents
Posted: July 10, 2005 Each year, thousands of people flock to Summerfest to enjoy the music, food and drinks or people-watching. But about 700 other people also come down to serve beer to thirsty patrons as temporary employees. About 85% of those workers end up returning each year to work for the 11-day festival, said Jon "Bingo" Berta, the manager for Major Goolsby's, 340 W. Kilbourn Ave. Berta, who has been managing the beer tents at Summerfest for seven years, said workers include schoolteachers on summer break and others who take vacation time from their regular jobs to work at Summerfest. Gina Duwe of the Journal Sentinel staff spoke with Berta about this year's festival. Takes Five Photo/ Jeffrey Phelps Jon Berta manages a temporary work force of several hundred people in the beer tents at Summerfest. He’s been doing the job for seven years.

POSSIBLE PREY ACQUISITION BEHAVIOR FOR THE CRETACEOUS FISH XIPHACTINUS AUDAX
BEAMON, Joseph C., Museum of the Rockies, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, USA Prey acquisition behavior of the Cretaceous marine fish Xiphactinus audax can be inferred from a combination of its morphology and preserved gut contents. Many specimens have been found with relatively large fishes in the gut region (6 ft. Gillicus arcuatus inside the 15 foot X. audax specimen at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History), seemingly swallowed head first. The hypothesis presented here is that Xiphactinus audax was equivalent to a modern piscivorous "lie-in-wait" predator (i.e., tuna, barracuda) with the ability to take relatively large fishes. Adaptations for acquiring large prey include a fully ossified and multifaceted vomeroethmoid unit and a basipterygoid process anchoring the palate to the neurocranium, restricting antero-posterior palatal movement and bracing the hyopalatine arch against strong postero-laterally directed forces of large, struggling prey. Epaxial muscles attached to the supraoccipital crest could be used to lift the entire nuerocranium, allowing the mouth to open wider for large prey. Xiphactinus audax had the body outline and fin placement of a modern "lie-in-wait" predator. The body is fusiform in lateral view and laterally compressed, with the anal, dorsal and pelvic fins placed posteriorly along the body and the pectoral and pelvic fins set ventrally. The caudal fin is lunate in shape, with a narrow caudal peduncle. Modern fishes with the above features approach their prey slowly, waiting until they are within range for a swift lunge. The eyes and mouth are both oriented dorsally, indicating that prey was approached from below. In addition, the teeth are large and conical, considered adaptations for piscivory in modern fishes, and the premaxillary teeth are enlarged, possibly for dealing with large prey.

NORTHERN BAJA—An Emerging Art Mecca By Ann Hazard There’s more, however. Much more. In the last few years there has been a virtual explosion of galleries offering “serious art” in northern Baja. The artists were always there, they just lacked the money for canvas, paint and other supplies. They also lacked places to display and sell their work, not to mention encouragement and support from gallery owners who believed in them so that they could develop their talent. GIORGIO SANTINI GALLERY OF FINE ART
"Painters who don't sell their work stop painting. They can't afford to buy more paint, because it's expensive," Aldo explains. "However, if their work is promoted, they sell, they paint more and they improve. This is a labor of love for me. I want to help them. We have the best artists in Baja here and we offer them a dignified space." is a magical place. The art is intense, alternately primitive and sophisticated with touches of surrealism here and there. There is passion, great beauty and a commitment to enabling the art community in Baja to unfold like the wings of a butterfly.
For six years, Gonzalez has a been a curator of the prestigious Galeria La Esquina De Bodegas at the Santo Tomas Winery in downtown Ensenada and at Centro Cultural Tijuana, Tijuana's main cultural center, with four major exhibitions there featuring Pereznieto, Gallois, Crosthwaite y Reveles.
