    Abstract:
The Japanese invasion of Korea (1592-98) has recently been called Asia's first "regional world war." It marked the first time in Asian history that massive armies equipped with modern weaponry faced one another on the field of battle. The Japanese armies commanded by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi were arguably the most skilled in the world at the time, yet in the end the Japanese were defeated by a Sino-Korean alliance in tandem with Korean guerrillas. Looking at the primary documents of the war, it seems apparent that military technology was the single most important, but not the only, factor that shaped the direction and determined the outcome of the war. This article presents an overview of some of the major military technologies utilized by the belligerents and challenges conventional interpretations of the conflict, passed down through the centuries, that claim Japan's defeat was due to superior allied numbers and Hideyoshi's death. Nachrichten Politik Deutschland ... Mobil Vom Kriege Carl von Clausewitz Krieg sollte nicht des Krieges willen gef¼hrt werden, sondern nur f¼r ein politisches Ziel, erkl¤rte der Kriegstheoretiker Carl von Clausewitz. DW-WORLD pr¤sentiert Ausz¼ge aus seinem Werk.
Der deutsche General und Kriegstheoretiker Carl von Clausewitz schrieb dazu: "(...) Der Krieg ist also ein Akt der Gewalt, um den Gegner zur Erf¼llung unseres Willens zu zwingen. (...) Man f¤ngt keinen Krieg an, oder man sollte vern¼nftigerweise keinen anfangen, ohne sich zu sagen, was man mit und was man in demselben erreichen will, das erstere ist der Zweck, das andere das Ziel. (...)
Napoleon Crossing the Bridge at Arcole, 1796 by Antoine-Jean Gros (1771-1835)
One of the largest and most distinct rare book collections held by Franklin and Marshall is the 1,890 volume Napoleonana Collection assembled by General John Watts de Peyster (1821-1907). De Peyster developed this collection of monographs about Napoleon Bonaparte and the Napoleonic era from his interest in European military history. The collection consists primarily of 19th-century imprints concerning Napoleon and his nephew Napoleon III, the Napoleonic Wars and the 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian War.
Originally willed to the Smithsonian Institution, the collection was transferred to Franklin and Marshall College in 1957 in recognition of de Peyster's historical relationship as a benefactor to the College Library. Consisting of 1,890 individual volumes (or 1250 titles), the collection was part of 4,000 books donated by John Watts de Peyster to the Smithsonian in 1904. The collection consists of books, pamphlets and maps focusing on the Napoleonic era in Europe from the French Revolution of 1789 until the death of Napoleon in 1821. John Watts de Peyster collected many of the items while traveling in Europe conducting research for his own biography of Napoleon, entitled Napoleone di Buonaparte

Creative Perfumes Never forget that no military leader has ever become great without audacity.
In war the will is directed at an animate object that reacts. Pursue one great decisive aim with force and determination. War is the province of chance. In no other sphere of human activity must such a margin be left for this intruder. It increases the uncertainty of every circumstance and deranges the course of events. "If the leader is filled with high ambition and if he pursues his aims with audacity and strength of will, he will reach them in spite of all obstacles."

Appius Claudius Caecus is also remarkable as the first writer mentioned in Roman literature. His speech against peace with Pyrrhus was the first that was transmitted to writing, and thereby laid the foundation of prose composition. He was the author of a collection of aphorisms in verse mentioned by Cicero (of which a few fragments remain), and of a legal work entitled De Usurpalioni bus. It is very likely also that he was concerned in the drawing up of the Legis Actiones published by Flavius. The famous dictum Every man is the architect of his own fortune is attributed to him. He also interested himself in grammatical questions, distinguished the two sounds R and S in writing, and ,did away with the letter Z. See Mommsens appendix to his Roman History (vol. i.); treatises by W. Siebert (1863) and F. D. Gerlach (1872), dealing especially with the censorship of Claudius.

Name: Karl von Clausewitz Birth Date: June 1, 1780 Death Date: November 16, 1831 Place of Birth: Burg, Prussia Place of Death: Breslau, Prussia Nationality: Prussian Gender: Male Occupations: military leader, writer Karl von Clausewitz Main Biography German military leader and strategist Karl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) has been called the "father of modern warfare." As a member of the officers' corps of the mighty Prussian army from an early age, Clausewitz witnessed some of the most decisive European battles of his century and culled his observations into a body of theories that were outlined in his 1832 tract, On War. Its most enduring statement, "War is a continuation of policy by other means," has been widely misconstrued. Clausewitz was born Karl Philipp Gottlieb von Clausewitz on June 1, 1780 in the Prussian city of Burg, near Magdeburg, capital of Saxony-Anhalt. He was one of six children of Friedrich Gabriel von Clausewitz, a retired Prussian army officer. Though Prussia no longer exists as a sovereign nation, during Clausewitz's lifetime it was one of Europe's most formidable powers. It originated as a duchy in the seventeenth century, and eventually acquired enough territory and influence to crown a king. Prus.....

Karl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) On War Book One from Chapter 3. On Military Genius
Every special calling in life, if it is to be followed with success, requires peculiar qualifications of understanding and soul. Where these are of a high order, and manifest themselves by extraordinary achievements, the mind to which they belong is termed Genius We know very well that this word is used in many significations which are very different both in extent and nature, and that with many of these significations it is a very difficult task to define the essence of Genius; but as we neither profess to be philosopher nor grammarian, we must be allowed to keep to the meaning usual in ordinary language, and to understand by "genius" a very high mental capacity for certain employments. We wish to stop for a moment over this faculty and dignity of the mind, in order to vindicate its title, and to explain more fully the meaning of the conception. But we shall not dwell on that (genius) which has obtained its title through a very great talent, on genius properly so called, that is a conception which has no defined limits. What we have to do is to bring under consideration every common tendency of the powers of the mind and soul towards the business of War, the whole of which common tendencies we may look upon as the essence of military genius . We say "common," for just therein consists military genius, that it is not one single quality bearing upon War, as, for instance, courage, while other qualities of mind and soul are wanting or have a direction which is unserviceable for War, but that it is
