SNARE proteins mediate lipid bilayer fusion
Jason B. Bock and Richard H. Scheller Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA 94305-5428
Article Lipid bilayers compartmentalize eukaryotic cells into distinct organelles. This compartmentalization allows for specialization of diverse cellular processes, from DNA polymerization to zymogen proteolysis. While the specific complement of proteins present in each organelle defines its function, there is a dynamic flux between these organelles. The selective transport of proteins

BACKGROUND/STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
Until September, 1999, the only motor vehicle refueling fires that the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) was aware of were caused either by an open flame (smoking), lack of electrical continuity between the nozzle and the gasoline dispenser, or a spark from the engine compartment of a vehicle with its motor running. From September 1999 through January 22, 2000, 36 ignitions of gasoline vapors during the refueling process were verbally reported to me at PEI. All occurred during dry weather. There were no open flames and the engines were off. Continuity was verified between the nozzle and dispenser. People that investigated the cause of these accidents concluded that static electricity was the source of ignition in all cases. HOW PEI GOT INVOLVED:
Although Americans pump gasoline into their cars between 11 and 12 billion times a year without incident, the fact that these fires were occurring in the first place—and with what appeared to be greater frequency—caused PEI to gather additional information about the circumstances surrounding the fires. We carried an article (Document A) in the January 25, 2000, issue of PEI’s newsletter (

Authors: Q to Z Albert Barunga was born around 1912 in the Prince Regent River area of the Kimberley. While he was out collecting pearl shell one day, he was picked up and taken to Kunmunya Mission. There, he was befriended by the Reverend J.R.B. Love, who relied on Albert to provide him with the knowledge to write on linguistics and for biblical translations.
When Kingsford-Smith's plane was forced down in the Kimberley, it was Albert who found it. No white man had any idea where to look. After the air raids on Broome in 1942, Albert worked for the navy. They had commandeered the mission lugger but needed his expertise for patrol work.
Albert Barunga encouraged the promotion of Aboriginal culture before it became fashionable. He was a regional chair of the Aboriginal Theatre Foundation, and an inaugural member of both the Aboriginal Cultural Foundation and the Aboriginal Arts Board of the Australia Council.

MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENTS.
In the names of the municipal townships and election precincts, with shifting boundaries, there has been many and frequent changes. Ogden, Manhattan, Dyer and Pierce were the names given to the townships of the county, April 2, 1856. Dyer lay between the Big Blue and Calhoun County, and Marshall County and the Kansas River, becoming afterwards the most of what became Pottawatomie County. Rock Creek Township was formed from it May 18, 1856. Pierce, Manhattan, and Ogden were wholly in what is now Riley County. Deep Creek, McDowell's Creek and Douglas townships were in territory, belonging now to Davis County. Reynold's Township was formed out of the territory between the Smoky Hill and Republican rivers, September 16, 1856. Dixon Township embraced territory north of it. County Commissioner Districts. - The first district embraces the townships of Manhattan and Zeandale. There are three voting places in the city - First, Second and Third Wards; a precinct in the township north, and one south of the Kansas River. The population in 1875 was 2,508; in 1880, 8,635. The second district embraces Ashland, Ogden, Madison, Bala, Fancy Creek, Center and May Day. The population in 1855 was 2,713; in 1880, 3,957. The third district comprises Swede Creek, Jackson, Grant and Wild Cat. The population in 1875 was 1,844; in 1880, 2,838. In 1875 the population of the county was 7,?6?; in 1880, 10,430.
