There is only one known tombstone which is currently in the yard of the old Brockway Farmhouse. The stone was plowed up in a cotton field several years ago. The stone is that of Archibald T. Maddera, who was born in Surry County, VA on August 10, 1792. He is mentioned in the book "Eary History of Huntsville, Alabama" by Edward Chambers Betts (1804-1870). Mr. Betts states that: "On the west side of Jefferson Street, just off the square, on the site of the old Huntsville Hotel, C. Cheatham owned and operated a tavern, and just across the street, in the center of the block, Archibald Maddera ran his tavern, which was headquarters for the delegates to the Territorial Constitutional Convention held at Huntsville in 1819."
