Murray a Londra). Le donne sono ormai finalmente ammesse da quasi vent'anni[ Unsuitable for Ladies (come recita anche il titolo di un'interessante libro di J. Robinson[ Lady of Quality ], è rimasto celebre il modo in cui fece saltare in piedi nel 1932 i giornalisti del Baghdad Times che non si erano alzati quando era entrata la prima volta al giornale: "in quest'ufficio le donne devono essere considerate delle regine!" [ Il viaggio sembrava precludere alle donne la condizione femminile. Un giornalista ancora nella prima metà del Novecento scrisse che due qualità caratterizzavano i viaggiatori "il coraggio e la fiducia in se stessi, entrambe risaputamente maschili" (Birkett 1989, p. 192).
