Ellis, Acton, and Currer Bell were the pseudonyms used by Emily, Anne, and Charlotte Bronte.) - Indeed, I feel myself that it is time the obscurity attending those two names- Ellis and Acton- was done away. The little mystery, which formerly yielded some harmless pleasure, has lost its interest; circumstances are changed. It becomes, then, my duty to explain briefly the origin and authorship of the books written by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. About five years ago, my two sisters and myself, after a somewhat prolonged period of separation, found ourselves reunited, and at home. Resident in a remote district, where education had made little progress, and where, consequently, there was no inducement to seek social intercourse beyond our own domestic circle, we were wholly dependent on ourselves and each other, on books and study, for the enjoyments and occupations of life. The highest stimulus, as well as the liveliest pleasure we had known from childhood upwards, lay in attempts at literary composition; formerly we used to show each other what we wrote, but of late years this habit of communication and consultation had been discontinued; hence it ensued, that we were mutually ignorant of the progress we might respectively have made.

Charlotte Brontë Charlotte Brontë, one of the most gifted English novelists, was born at Thornton, Yorkshire, 21 st April 1816. Her father, originally Patrick Prunty (1777-1861), who was a clergyman, came from Ireland; her mother was a native of Cornwall. Her life almost to its close was one of sorrow and struggle. In 1821 the family removed to Haworth, a village situated amid the Yorkshire Moors, and in 1822 her mother died. In her eighth year Charlotte was sent to Cowan’s Bridge School, the Lowood of which she has given so dark a picture in Jane Eyre . Two of her sisters took fever there and died. Charlotte, whose own health had broken down, was taken back to Haworth, and remained there until 1831, when she was sent to school at Roehead kept by Miss Wooler, with whom she formed a life-long friendship. Mr Bronte’s austere and gloomy nature cast a shadow over his children’s lives. His means were narrow, and his daughters, Charlotte, Emily (born 20 th August 1818), and Anne (born 25 th March 1820), were forced to seek a livelihood as governesses. To fit themselves for higher education work, Charlotte and Emily studied at Brussels from 1842 to 1844. In 1846 the three sisters published a volume of poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell - Currer Bell being the pseudonym of Charlotte. The book attracted little notice. Its authors then turned to prose fiction; Charlotte writing

Charlotte Bronte - A Tribute
By Judith Bronte
With excerpts from 'The Life of Charlotte Bronte'
by Elizabeth Gaskell (Written in 1857)

"Whatsoever things are true... honest... just... pure... lovely... of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
~ Philippians 4:8 ~ or many years, I have enjoyed the company of Charlotte Bronte. Even though she died over a hundred years ago, her voice did not. Her voice can be heard in the poetry she wrote, and in the novels she penned.
Among her novels, 'Jane Eyre' is, by far, her most well known work. 'Jane Eyre' 'Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre' . Ciran (pronounced kee-ran) Hinds's portrayal of Mr. Rochester was very well acted, as was Samantha Morton's Jane Eyre. However, Charlotte Bronte's novel is more than just a good story. It is a morality lesson that people of all generations can learn from. In this age of "throw away marriages", Charlotte's words still echo from the past: "Suddenly he [Mr. Rochester] turned away, with an inarticulate exclamation, full of passionate emotion of some kind; he walked fast through the room and came back; he stooped towards me as if to kiss me; but I remembered caresses were now forbidden. I turned my face away and put his aside.
