Ludwig Van Beethoven
Born at Bonn, probably on 16 December, 1770; died at Vienna, 26 March, 1827. The date of his birth has never been positively ascertained but is inferred from the fact that the baptismal registry of his parish church gives 17 December as the date of his baptism , and that it is customary in Catholic countries to baptize infants the day following their birth. Beethoven's father was tenor singer in the court chapel of the Prince-Archbishop of Cologne, where his grandfather, a native of Holland, had for a number of years the post of musical director. He was therefore brought up from his earliest youth in a musical atmosphere. While the father was rigorous and not always reasonable in his rule over the young genius, his mother was often over-lenient with him, a fact which may account for some of the traits of character the young man developed later on. Joseph Haydn . Instruction under this master did not continue with any system or for any length of time, owing to a radical difference of temperament between the two men. Beethoven soon found his way to the great contrapuntist, Albrechtsberger, through whose guidance and the private study of J.J. Fux's treatise of theory and counterpoint, "Gradus ad Parnassum", he acquired the solidity and freedom of style which soon commanded the admiration of the musical world. Assiduous study of the works of Handel

Haydn , but there was some clash of temperaments and Beethoven studied too with Schenk, Albrechtsberger and Salieri . Until 1794 he was supported by the Elector at Bonn but he found patrons among the music-loving Viennese aristocracy and soon enjoyed success as a piano virtuoso, playing at private houses or palaces rather than in public. His public debut was in 1795; about the same time his first important publications appeared, three piano trios op.l and three piano sonatas op.2. As a pianist, it was reported, he had fire, brilliance and fantasy as well as depth of feeling. It is naturally in the piano sonatas, writing for his own instrument, that he is at his most original in this period; the Pathetique belongs to 1799, the

Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn on 17 December 1770, the son of a tenor singer in the employ of the Elector of Cologne. His father was a drunkard, who returned home late at night, often drunk, and dragged young Ludwig from his bed in order to beat music lessons into the boy's sleepy head. There are also stories of his father forcing him to play his violin for the amusement of his drinking cronies. Despite these and other abuses - which might well have persuaded a lesser person to loathe the subject - the young Beethoven developed a sensitivity and vision for music. Despite his father's brutal teaching methods, Ludwig showed signs of promise, so his father called in teachers to help his son. By the age of seven, he was advanced enough to perform in public.

    Ludwig van Beethoven
The greatest composer there ever was, and ever will be, Ludwig van Beethoven is the father of Romanticism. His works are those of great feeling, showing truly is pain and suffering he could tell not say in words. The master of all forms of music, Beethoven was even at times not composing for a career, but rather to express his thoughts of life. He had an enormous range of writing ability, from his stormy, crashing "Eroica" Symphony No.3 to his smooth, mellow "Moonlight" Sonata No.14 . And though he suffered very much, his music never suffered, as it is cherished and protected by all, realizing that indeed, Beethoven is the one titan of the musical giants. Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, on the banks of Germany. His father was a drunkard who abused Beethoven into being a child prodigy, like the previous childhood of Mozart . His mother died when Beethoven was just seventeen years old, leaving Ludwig to take care of a drunken father, two brothers, and a sister. In his early childhood, Beethoven battered, forcingly pushed to practice until his he would be like the child Mozart was. Beethoven was even brutally awakened in the middle of the night by his father, to practice at the piano half-asleep. He began playing the piano and composing at a very young age, which attracted the attention of several wealthy people, who became his close friends. They and the prince of Cologne encouraged and helped Beethoven to travel to Vienna, to spread the news of his talent, and to study and seek his fortune. In Vienna, Beethoven dreamed of studying with Mozart, but he had died just the year before. He therefore asked to study with the other classical great
