Three species, which include the animals we usually think of as hyaenas ( Crocuta crocuta Hyaena hyaena , and Parahyaena brunnea ), hunt and scavenge large vertebrate prey. The fourth species, the aardwolf ( Proteles cristata ), subsists almost exclusively on termites. Hyaenas are medium to large in size, 10-80 kg. They have a bushy tail, rounded ears, and three of the four species have stripes or spots on their coats (the brown hyaena, Parahyaena , is unmarked). A mane may be present. A striking feature is the disparity in length between the front and rear limbs. This disparity, plus large head and forequarters relatively larger than hindquarters, makes them seem like they're always running uphill. Their stance is digitigrade and their claws are blunt and non-retractile. A unique feature of

To encourage this renaissance, Zoology strives to provide a common forum where all aspects of zoology are presented from an explicitly comparative perspective. The journal invites papers that take a comparative approach to biogeography, ecology, behavior, morphology, development, physiology, cell biology, and genetics. By providing a wide stage, Zoology intends to promote an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of animal form, function, development, and evolution. The editors and editorial board are also committed to remaining flexible enough to adjust to the ever changing field of animal biology. Meerkats ( Suricata suricatta ) inhabit portions of South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, extending from the south west arid biotic zone and eastward into neighboring southern savanna and grassland areas (van Staaden, 1994). These areas include the majority of the southern tip of Africa up to about 17 degrees South latitude. Biogeographic Regions:

Habitat
Meerkats inhabit the most open and arid country of any mongoose species. They are found in areas of savannah and open plains and their distribution depends on soil type, with firm to hard soils being common living grounds (Estes, 1991; van Staaden, 1994). The Physics of Cows
(Presented as a lecture by man in lab coat with a blackboard)
Cows have a very high surface tension. Surface tension can be seen in water, in the way pond-skaters are able to skim across the surface of a body of liquid without sinking, and also in the way drops of water always tend towards spherical shape. In cows (and meat in general) the surface tension forces them to tend toward the shape of a cube. The forces at work in the cow are finely balanced, just allowing it to maintain cow-shape. However, if 2 cows should be allowed to touch each other, the surface tension will immediately force them to merge. This larger body of meat is unable to maintain its cow form against the surface tension forces now at work, and so will form a Cow Cube, or Cowube, pronounced “COWUUUUBE” with the mass of 2 cows.
The seriousness of the implications of this phenomenon for the dairy industry, and the future of humanity, should not be underestimated. This Cowube, with its 2-cow mass, exerts enough gravitational force to suck in nearby cows of lower mass. As they touch the Cowube, they merge immediately with it, forming a Cowube of ever-increasing mass, exerting ever-increasing gravitational force on cows.
Eventually, this vast and ever-growing cube of meat will implode under its own gravitational force, forming a singularity. This is why, as every astronomer knows, the surface of every black hole is always a cow.
