NEW WEB SITE
T his site focuses on faculty and students from Oregon State University, Department of Forest Science who collaborate with the PNW Forest Mycology Team . We are actively pursuing research on the effects of various forest management approaches on ectomycorrhizal fungi in an ecosystem context. The development of protocols for conserving and monitoring biological diversity of forest fungi is another important area of concentration. We are also conducting research and developing monitoring protocols for commercially harvested forest mushrooms. Our team has particular expertise with those fungi that produce hypogeous sporocarps (truffles). About a dozen mycological field studies are in place or planned throughout the Pacific Northwest region. The integrated research and extended perspective offered by our studies will produce information on long term interactions between mycorrhizal fungi, wild edible mushrooms, sustainable ecosystem productivity, and forest management practices. Looking for an exciting career in the plant sciences? The Department of Plant Pathology offers extraordinary possibilities to gain experience in the variety of approaches used to investigate the nature and management of plant disease. Since the days of our first graduate student, Calvin C. Murray working with the founder of our Department, Julian H. Miller (pictured left), programs offered by the Department have prepared students for rewarding careers in every aspect of the discipline of plant pathology. The Department has a large faculty with diverse expertise building on strong traditions of scholarship in teaching, research and extension. There are excellent facilities at all three campuses (Athens, Griffin and Tifton) for work ranging from lab-based investigations of host-pathogen interaction to field investigations of diseases in apple, corn, cotton, cowpea, ornamentals, peaches, peanut, pecan, small fruits, small grains, soybean, tobacco, turf and vegetables. The Department emphasizes quality undergraduate and graduate education in the classroom, laboratory and field. Students receive excellent training in bacteriology, epidemiology, genetics, host-pathogen interactions, mycology, nematology, molecular biology, pest management, and virology. Many faculty include basic and applied aspects to their program so the student is exposed to the many facets of plant pathology. The faculty maintains high standards and works closely with students to provide maximum individual attention. Students must be highly motivated and committed to understanding how basic biological principles are applied to the science of plant pathology so disease can be understood and managed. In return, students can make significant contributions to agriculture, industry, science and society.

The topics include, but are not limited to mycological, biochemical and molecular investigations of etiological agents of mycoses; aspects of pathogenesis, immunology, and epidemiology of mycotic diseases; case reports of unusual medical or veterinary fungal infections; laboratory approaches to the identification of fungal pathogens, antifungal therapy and prophylaxis; mode of action, pharmacokinetics and assessments of new antifungal agents; investigations of the mycological aspects of the indoor environment, with a focus on human and animal health. The aim of the journal is to present the best scientific reports from throughout the world and in so doing to provide a comprehensive reference base for medical mycologists, microbiologists, clinicians, and environmental specialists.

Over 100 years of expertise in fungal taxonomy
For more than a century mycologists at Kew have helped to increase our knowledge of the fungal kingdom by identifying and describing new families, new genera, new species, in Britain and overseas. Each year over 4,000 specimens are received at Kew from more than 30 countries around the world for expert determination. Kew mycologists have pioneered research into tropical and equatorial fungi from the Amazon to Australia, working in collaboration with overseas research institutes and universities. Following our move to more spacious premises, we can also offer improved research facilities for mycological visitors from abroad. In Britain, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew provides an expert service offering practical assistance with medical problems, legal and forensic consultation, and advice on wood-rotting fungi. TEAM MISSION
The mission of the Forest Mycology Team is to provide a fundamental understanding of the biological and functional diversity of forest fungi and to develop and apply information gained in an ecosystem context to conserve the fungal resource and sustain the health and productivity of forest ecosystems. The team's research is divided into three problem areas: 1) Ecology, biology, and functional diversity of forest fungi. This area considers issues related to fungal taxonomy, systematics and phylogeny, understanding and documenting fungal communities in space and time, examining effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on the ecology of forest fungi, and exploring important ecosystem functions of forest fungi, particularly their roles in ecosystem resiliency and health.

I ntroduction Welcome to the home page of the Palouse Mycological Association (PMA), the amateur mushroom club of Washington State University, the University of Idaho, and surrounding area. The Palouse Mycological Association is a relatively new club, formed in January, 1993 by Norma Copes who served as our president until 1995. The goal of our association is to provide opportunities for our members to gain a better understanding of mushrooms and related fungi through forays, presentations and fungal feasts. We have a dedicated and highly enthusiastic core of members and our numbers are growing each year. Our members include amateur and professional mycologists from the Pullman - Moscow area and the surrounding communities of the Palouse. Our scientific advisors are Dr. Lori Carris , associate professor at Washington State University and Dr. Edmund Tylutki, professor emeritus of the University of Idaho. Dr. Tylutki is the author of several books on regional fungi, including Volumes 1 and 2 of Mushrooms of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest
