Current areas of study include the identification of the factors that, in general, make it more difficult to cryopreserve tissues than cells, and organs than tissues. Specific areas of study include mechanisms and patterns of ice crystallisation in tissues, the role of thermal stress particularly in aqueous glasses, effects on cell adhesion and the use of dielectric heating.
