These papers cover a range of disciplines from molecular and cellular physiology and biochemistry through whole plant physiology to community physiology. Every issue of the Journal contains at least one 'Perspective' article. These are most commonly reviews of research areas, which are particularly exciting and important, topical or controversial. Opinion articles are also considered. In addition to 12 regular issues, at least one Special Issue is published each year. These are collection of articles derived from a specialised meeting or conference session. All papers are fully reviewed, and we will endeavour to complete the review process with all speed. Economic Botany
Research into useful and potentially useful plants is focused in the Centre for Economic Botany (CEB), and concentrates on the United Kingdom and the world's arid and semi-arid zones. Economic Botany has always been a key aspect of scientific research at Kew and the building which houses the CEB was named after Kew's most famous economic botanist, Sir Joseph Banks. The building also houses the Economic Botany Collection, which contains more than 76,000 botanical artefacts. News About Us Research Services ... Education

    51. Botany/primula
    Introduction to the types, characteristics and care involved.
    http://www.botany.com/primula.html
    PRIMULA (Prim'ula) DESCRIPTION: POTTING - Hardy Primulas: The bog kinds of Primulas grow best in wet places such as the bog garden, streamside or pond. They can, however, be grown successfully if they are watered generously in dry weather and if they're given a soil so rich in humus or vegetable matter it acts like a sponge and soaks in and retains moisture easily. Large quantities of leaf mold, cow manure, peat moss, or sphagnum moss should be mixed into the soil. An area that is shaded from strong sunshine should be chosen to plant these Primulas. The rock and cliff dwelling Primulas grow the best in rock gardens in loamy soil that has good drainage and never becomes too dry. Leaf mold, sand and a bit of limestone or rubble added would be beneficial. Greenhouse Primulas: PROPAGATION - Hardy Primulas: Greenhouse Primulas: VARIETIES Hardy Primulas: Bog or Woodland Dwelling: (The English Primrose) P. vulgaris (P. acaulis) and its variety P. vulgaris rubra; Polyanthus Primrose; P. alpicola; P.beesiana; P. bullesiana;

    The Index Nominum Genericorum ING ), a collaborative project of the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) and the Smithsonian Institution, was initiated in 1954 as a compilation of generic names published for all organisms covered by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature . We are pleased to offer a way to search the ING database . We hope that those needing access to information about generic names of plants will use the index and will advise us of potential additions and corrections. Ellen Farr and Gea Zijlstra, Editors
    farre@si.edu

    Introduction
    The original intent of the ING was to bring all generic names of plants together in a single list to reveal homonymy between groups. In addition, ING includes bibliographic citations and information about the typification and nomenclatural status of generic names. The index was first published on sets of printed cards and then in book form in 1979 (Farr et al., 1979). A supplement was also published (Farr et al., 1986). While a second supplement is planned, we recognize that hard copy is immediately out of date, and for users with access to the Internet we believe that the World Wide Web offers promise as a useful platform for a collaborative project such as this. Current work on the ING is supported by the Smithsonian Institution, IAPT, and the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands. The content of the database was developed over a 40-year period by the efforts of more than 100
