Bioinformatics 2002 was the fourth major international bioinformatics meeting in Scandinavia. It was be organised by the Society for Bioinformatics in the Nordic Countries (SocBiN) in cooperation between Scandinavian bioinformatics groups. The conference covered current developments in research on all aspects of bioinformatics. Bioinformatics 2002 was held in the city of Bergen which is located on the west coast of Norway. Bergen was founded around 1070 and today it is the second largest city in the country. Bergen is often called "the gateway to the Fjords" and is the perfect starting point for exploring the western part of Norway. The city itself has many historical buildings, among them is the "Bryggen" a UNESCO-protected Hanseatic building complex. Bioinformatics 2002 was held in the centre of the city within walking distance from the major tourist attractions, shops etc. Travelling to Bergen is easy for example using direct flights from Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and London. The venue of the conference was the Raddison SAS Royal Hotel Bergen located at "Bryggen".

Bioinformatics Links Directory
The Bioinformatics Links Directory features curated links to molecular resources, tools and databases. All of the resources are free or available for a nominal fee. The links listed in this directory are selected on the basis of recommendations from bioinformatics experts in the field. We make every effort to list useful, well tested resources instead listing all tools. We also rely on input from our community of bioinformatics users for suggestions . Starting in 2004, we have also started listing all links contained in the NAR Webserver issue. These NAR links are indicated with a NAR Webserver icon in the directory. The UBC Bioinformatics Centre does not specifically endorse or support any of the links in the directory, nor are we responsible for the content of any of these external sites. This category contains links to resources relating to programming languages often used in bioinformatics. Other tools of the trade, such as web development and database resources, are also included here.

Welcome to the Penn Center for Bioinformatics
Our interdisciplinary center focuses on research and education in the rapidly emerging fields of bioinformatics and computational biology, disciplines which deal with the analysis and management of data generated by high-throughput techniques in genomics, molecular and cellular biology. The ultimate goal of our collaborative research is to integrate all levels of information, including the genome sequence, the state of the cell (e.g., transcriptome and the proteome) and the phenotype. PCBI brings together faculty from several schools - from biologists to computer scientists and mathematicians. We provide a home for the newly formed graduate group in Genomics and Computational Biology . Finally, for the broader Penn community, PCBI provides bioinformatics services and tools, through the Penn Bioinformatics Core Maja Bucan, Interim Director
