In addition to topical reviews, which provide the main focus of each issue, TiBS provides a platform for debate and hypothesis where new ideas can be discussed. A popular section is the Protein Sequence Motif column, which publishes short reports of new motifs or sequence homologies that have been recognized in known sequences. TiBS also features letters, reviews of computer applications and techniques, historical perspectives of biochemical and molecular biology research, and book reviews. TiBS is part of the Trends journal series, now recognized as the most highly cited group of monthly review journals in the world.

168. Biochemistry
We felt it was more appropriate to have the biochemistry section here on The key thing to remember is that biochemistry is the chemistry of the living
If you had visited Biology4Kids you may recognize this section. We felt it was more appropriate to have the biochemistry section here on Chem4Kids. It is one of the crossover fields of chemistry. Biochemists have to understand both the living world and the chemical world to be the best at their jobs.
The key thing to remember is that biochemistry is the chemistry of the living world. Plants, animals, single-celled organisms... They all use the same basic chemical compounds to live their lives. Biochemistry is not about the cells or the organisms. It's about the smallest parts of those organisms, the molecules. It's also about the cycles that happen to make those compounds.
Those cycles that repeat over and over are the things that allow living creatures to survive on this planet. It could be the constant process of photosynthesis in plants or the building of complex proteins in the cells of your body. Every cycle has a place and they are just one building block to help organisms live. In each of those cycles, molecules are needed and changed. It's one big network of activity where each piece relies on all of the others.

The Department of Biochemistry was founded on July 1, 1950 to conduct research and teach the biochemistry portion of the newly-created medical school curriculum at the University of British Columbia. In 1992, it was renamed The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to reflect the expanding nature of teaching and research carried out by its faculty members. We enjoy the resources to provide an excellent training and research environment for students and personnel, and invite you to visit our webpages for further information.

Aims and Scope: Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Silicon and the Related Elements
welcomes submissions involving the organic, inorganic, and biochemistry of phosphorus (including arsenic, antimony, and bismuth), sulfur (including selenium and tellurium), and silicon (including germanium and tin). In addition to research describing new chemistry of a particular element, especially welcome are presentations emphasizing relationships between elements and families of elements: for example, research comparing synthetic, mechanistic, or structural features providing new insight leading to a more rapid advance of science in these areas. Original articles, communications, and selected reviews of broad interest will be considered for publication. Manuscripts may include illustrative material in color if this will enhance the presentation.
