Whether it be from math class or computer science class, eventually we will need to learn about number systems, and the mathematics that is involved.
Binary numbers
, as with decimal, octal, and hexadecimal numbers, are organized into columns. To learn binary math, we first need to understand how number systems operate. Let's take a look at the decimal system first, since it is simple and easier to think about. We can consider the number "1234" as,
Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones Which means,
Given, = 10^0 (any number to the exponent zero is one, except for zero) The table above can be represented as, Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones such that,
The decimal system, as with decimal math, operates in "base 10" ( dec being the Latin prefix for ten) using the digits 0-9 to represent numbers, whereas the binary system, as well as its math, operates in "base 2" ( bi being the Latin prefix for two) using the digits 0-1 to represent numbers. The base is also known as the radix. In other words, the table above can be represented as, Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones Decimal Binary In base 10, we put the digits 0-9 in columns 10^0, 10^1, 10^2, and so on. To put a number that is greater than 9 into 10^n, we must add to 10^(n+1). For example, adding 10 to column 10^0 requires us to add 1 to the column 10^1.

Numbering System of Spectrum Glass Company, major manufacturer of specialty sheet glass for art, architecture and the stained glass crafts.
http://www.spectrumglass.com/NumberSys.html
Explanation of Our Numbering System Spectrum Glass is classified by a code system which permits users to visualize the product even without a sample in hand. The system attempts to identify colors by number, and in most cases describes lightness or darkness, color dominance, light transmission and texture. Though the system is imperfect, and most rules have their exceptions, with a little study and practice you will find this a reasonably understandable method of communicating about Spectrum glass. The code is basically numerical, with digits to designate:
  • Category - general product description
  • Color (s)
  • Intensity of color (lightness / darkness)
  • Degree of translucency
CATEGORY:
Always the 1st digit in a product code
  • 100 series = Cathedrals (single non-opal colors).
  • 200 series = Opal glasses, either solid colors (opalized) or non-white opals in a cathedral mix.
  • 300 series = Mix of single cathedral color with white opal.
  • 400 series = Mix of two cathedral colors.
  • 500 series = One cathedral color described by blended hues (like greenish blue).
  • 600 series = Multi-color mixes (3+) including white opal.

Problem C The Stern-Brocot Number System Input: standard input Output: standard output The Stern-Brocot tree is a beautiful way for constructing the set of all nonnegative fractions m n where m and n are relatively prime. The idea is to start with two fractions and then repeat the following operations as many times as desired: Insert between two adjacent fractions and For example, the first step gives us one new entry between and and the next gives two more: The next gives four more, and then we will get 8, 16, and so on. The entire array can be regarded as an infinite binary tree structure whose top levels look like this: The construction preserves order, and we couldn't possibly get the same fraction in two different places. We can, in fact, regard the Stern-Brocot tree as a number system for representing rational numbers, because each positive, reduced fraction occurs exactly once. Let's use the letters L and R to stand for going down to the left or right branch as we proceed from the root of the tree to a particular fraction; then a string of L 's and R 's uniquely identifies a place in the tree. For example

The Mayan Number System The Mayans had a number system consisting of shells, dots, and lines. You could write up to nineteen with just these symbols. The Maya were one of the only ancient civilizations that understood the concept of zero. This allowed them to write very large numbers. Would mean Would mean 1 Would mean 5 Maya Numbers 0-19 The numbers from 20 on are the same symbols but they'd be 20 times what they really represent just add after it. Using this system you can write up to 399. Now that you understand, you do 20 times 20 times the symbol for 400 to 7999. Here's how you would write 1,377 in Mayan numerals. Back Home

The Nashville Number System Explained ..
Ok.. it's a standard 12 bar in "G" but add a 2 ...kick it off from the 5 ... hit the 4 and then into the 1 ... watch me for the 2 ... Say What !! ... and the place is packed wall to wall with rowdy music fans ... now is not the time to ask what does this mean ..
The Nashville Number System is a shorthand method of writing musical arrangements that was developed by Nashville studio musicians. It is a powerful tool in the written communication of music. Also see The One Page Nashville # System / Fretboard Chart / Music Theory Guide .. The ultimate resource to learn or review the Nashville # System and all aspects of music theory, no matter your skill level or musical style
This system uses Roman Numerals ( I II III etc. ) or Arabic Numbers (12 3 etc..) instead of chord letters. This is because people do not always play the same song in the same key. Also, some will use a capo, while others will not. This system prevents the musician from having to rewrite chord charts to reflect his/her own key preference.
All numbers are relative to the key you decide to play it in. For example, the "3rd" in a C chord is an E note; using the root (C) as the number one, and counting upwards ie. C = 1, D = 2, and E = 3, etc. The chart below will help you understand it better and help you to figure out the chords if you need help.

SatchLCall Update - May 13, 2003 There may be some forthcoming updates to the applet. Since many libraries split numbers like "BF121" into two separate lines ("BF" and "121"), the slide show may incorporate such information into the presentation. Also, there may be an option to specify call numbers for certain subjects. For example, if you wish to use SatchLCall to train students to shelve books in an engineering library, you could set a parameter in the HTML file so that the example books in the drag and drop quiz start mostly with TKs. What is SatchLCall? satchel A small bag; esp. a bag for carrying schoolbooks... SatchLCall (pronounced "satchel call") is a tutorial that explains shelving according to the Library of Congress Call Number System. It consists of a slide show, followed by a Java applet that allows patrons to drag and drop books onto a virtual bookshelf to test how well they learned the system. It is designed to teach shelving skills. It does not attempt to cover the rules, meanings, and methods of the LC Classification System. SatchLCall has two "flavors:" basic and complete.
