Official Anna Kournikova Message Boards Anna Kournikova The Fans PDA View Full Version : Anna's partner N.Zvereva birthday(30!) vicold 04-16-2001, 12:48 PM Today 16/04/2001 is 30-year jubilee for Natasha Zvereva -double partner and older friend of Anna. She was the first who congratuleted Anna with her 1-st Grand Slam title in doubles in 1999 (Anna/Martina win over Natasha/Lindsay).
Best wishes to Natasha on the occasion of her 30-year jubilee!
I am her old fan since beginning of her tennis carreer . She is a great player 4 ever, won all Grand Slam titles, bronze Olimpic medalist (1992), her best single rank is 7, carreer prize money near $8m! She was the first Russian player who refused to transmit almost all prize money to the Soviet govt. She has a very independent character (BTW she ousted her father as a coach , remaining in a good relationship ).
For the last half a year she is (like Anna) unlucky with injuries. She lives near Los Angeles.
Be healthy, consistent and independent as usually, Natasha!
Be happy and with good friends!

2000 Ericsson Open (Tennis Masters Series) at Miami, Florida, on Sunday, March 26, 2000
Anna Kournikova defeated Natasha Zvereva, 6-1, 6-4 An Interview With Anna Kournikova Q. Nick recently said that he felt the strength of your game was your net play. If he were to advise you, he suggests that you come to net even 90% of the time. Do you have any thoughts about that? Could you comment about that strategy in your game? ANNA KOURNIKOVA: I think my game is basically attacking, but it doesn't mean I have to go every point to the net. I have good groundstrokes. I prefer to play out the point, then finish them at the net if I have a chance. But if I'm playing on surfaces like grass, of course I'll come to the net. Q. But if you had to pick out one or two of the strong points of your game, what would that be? ANNA KOURNIKOVA: I think it's the aggressiveness of my game, whether it's groundstrokes or something else. But, you know, groundstrokes are the basics of tennis. Q. One or two things you'd like to work on?

2000 Australian Open at Melbourne, Australia, on January 19, 2000
Anna Kournikova defeated Natasha Zvereva, 6-1, 6-4 An Interview With Anna Kournikova Q. Was that easier perhaps than you expected?
ANNA KOURNIKOVA : Yeah, well, I knew it was going to be a tough match. I mean, she's a great player, she has so much experience, great hands and everything, but, I mean, she plays a little bit slow, so I knew that I had to attack and hit a bit fast so she wouldn't have time. But I didn't think it was going to be that easy in the first set.
Q. How did you find the courts, the conditions?
ANNA KOURNIKOVA : Well, it was hard for me to see something in these two matches because we barely had any points. I mean, they were really fast. But in practice, yeah, I can see the difference, definitely, it's faster.
Q. Do you think it will suit you?
ANNA KOURNIKOVA : So far it is great, yeah. Well, I think that I play good on fast courts, you know, because my favourite is grass courts, so there's nothing faster than that except indoors. So I like it a lot, yeah.
Q. How much attention do you pay to the fact that - I mean, you've had quite a bit of success, yet in four years on the tour you haven't gotten a tournament title, although you've been close a few times. Do you think that's important to you or

Martina Hingis (born September 30 ) is a professional tennis player from Switzerland . Born Martina Hingisova Molitor in Košice Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia ), Hingis lived for a time in Florida but has now returned to Switzerland. She was named after Martina Navratilova , another tennis player of Czechoslovakian origin.
At one time ranked #1 in the world for women's singles, she has not played since October 2002 because of chronic foot injuries, and in February 2003 she stated that she could not foresee a return to tennis. In her statements, she said that due to her injuries she could not play to a level where she would again be competitive with the best, and was not interested in coping with the pain in her feet to compete at a lesser level. Like many professional tennis players, Hingis started playing at a very young age. By 5 years of age, she started entering tournaments. In 1996, Hingis partnered with Helena Sukova in the Ladies Doubles event and made history by becoming the youngest person ever to win one of the

It is the contextual portrait, by Richard Evans, of a complex institution set within the larger frameworks of sport and this century's great events and dynamics. Dwight Davis's annual challenge cup has proved to be the catalyst for tennis's entrance onto the international stage and it remains a significant force to this day. Evans charts both the cup's influence on the evolution of international tennis as well as the sporting, social and political storms which have buffeted the development of the Davis Cup ever since.
