Glad to see her knocked out. It was plainly evident from the 1st rd that she was in no way fit enough to enter the tourny and compete. Through her selfishness she has stopped another, fit player from playing. On the plus side we don't have to endure a poor williams v williams match with neither wanting to win. Serena stick to fashion your tennis days are done.

Dude what are you talking about Serena's days are nowhere near from done she has many tournament wins and Grand Slams left in her. As far as for her not being fit yeah i have to agree with you she was not fit enough but that just shows you that at nowhere near her best serena can still beat girls with just shear determination, yaeh she could have given up her spot and let another girl play but it just comes to show you what this tournament means to her. I think from hearing what she has had to say in the past had it been any other tournament she would not have played but it being Wimbledon she really wanted to play. As for you saying that you didnt want to see another Williams vs. Williams match i dont know about you but i would have liked to watch it it would have been an exciting match i think. And trust me just like Venus, Serena will come back with a vengence being it that she is healthy.

Venus Williams and Serena Williams
Source: http://shanmonster.bla-bla.com/rants/rant118.html September 29, 2000 I do not have Olympic fever. I haven't even seen any Olympic footage, aside from whatever photos which may adorn the front pages of various newspapers. However, yesterday, I read something on a forum that I found very interesting. Both Serena and Venus Williams competed in the Olympics. Both proudly carried the American flag in front of an international audience. And Venus stood at attention and sang the national anthem. You might wonder why this is so interesting to me. The answer is because the Williams sisters are Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs), and JWs are not supposed to sing anthems, pledge allegiance to the flag, or have a nationalistic bone in their bodies. The Olympics are considered by the Watchtower Society (the JW's equivalent of the Pope) to be a nationalistic event, and therefore to be avoided. Carrying the flag is considered to be an act of idolatry. Singing the anthem, or giving a standing ovation, for that matter, is tantamount to offering prayer to another god. This isn't just a minor thing like the Catholic "prohibition" against eating meat on Fridays. It is a very big deal. At least, it used to be. Sixty years ago, JWs were beaten, threatened, stoned (with rocks, you weirdo!), jailed, and had their property destroyed because of their firm stance against nationalism. You can read more about that at Jehovah's Witnesses, Litchfield residents clash over religious beliefs. When I was a kid, I staunchly sat in my seat during the singing of the anthem while other students stood up and sang. Although some teachers tried to cajole me into at least standing for the anthem, I adamantly refused.

Serena Williams has come a long way. As a little girl, she practiced tennis at neighborhood parks in the Los Angeles suburb of Compton, California. Today she is the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world, winning her first Wimbledon title and second straight Grand Slam tournament this year. Serena recently talked to TFK at a special event in New York City. Here's what she had to say about her life, both on and off the court.
Serena Williams (right) and her sister Venus proudly show off their Olympic gold medals in Sydney, Australia.
TFK: What do you like most about tennis?
Serena: You can travel a lot, and you get to meet a lot of different people. I like to play. It's what I like to do.
TFK: What have you learned about your game during your years in women's tennis? Serena: I've learned a lot. I learned I could actually be the best player out there if I worked harder. I have to play a few more tournaments.

Interviewer - Ms. Williams we are all interested in your new boyfriend.
Serena : There is no new boyfriend. I stopped playing with boys when I stopped dating black guys. I have a new man in my life and yes, he's white.
Interviewer - So you prefer to date white men instead of black guys?
Serena : let's be real. If you are a successful black female you only have two choices....date outside of your race or date other successful black females. Interviewer - Are you saying there are no successful black men to date? Serena : Of course not but lets face it, if Oprah would date outside of her race she would be married with children now. The state of most black men is so low the only thing you can do is love them. Like a poor homeless dog. You can't expect it to protect you. You can only offer shelter and love and watch as our neighbor's pitbull protects his home and family. I, unlike Oprah, am not forced to stay within those boundaries. I was born into a new generation of black women. Interviewer - So Oprah is being forced to date Stedman?

NEARLY 15 years ago, an unknown father stood on a crumbling tennis court in Compton, Calif., and told his little daughter Venus that she was going to be one of the best tennis players in the world. This was a bold prediction, for the father was a neighborhood tennis coach and he knew that the odds of this happening were astronomical. After all, no Black person had dominated the game of tennis since Arthur Ashe won Wimbledon in 1975, and no Black woman had won a major tournament since Althea Gibson won the U.S. championships and Wimbledon in 1957 and 1958.

Save a personal copy of this article and quickly find it again with Furl.net. It's free! Save it. Superstar and her supersister dazzle tennis world WHEN Venus Williams won the coveted Lipton Invitational earlier this year, the tennis world reeled. Not since Althea Gibson won Wimbledon in 1957 and 1958 had a Sister caused such a stir within the White country club sport of tennisand rarely has anyone, Black or White, become among the game's best in the cavalier way that Williams has. The 18-year-old Compton, Calif., native used speed, agility and a 100-plus-miles-per-hour serve (one was even clocked at a blazing 122 miles per hour, the second-fastest serve in Women's Tennis Association history) to overpower her opponents and win the Lipton title, her first singles championship. By doing so, the 6-foot-2 Williams moved into the Top 10 for the first time. But the rankings don't tell the whole story. In fact, some tennis insidersmany of whom have followed Venus since she was 7say that when Venus is at the top of her game, she is the best player in the world.

Venus and Serena Williams - Growing Up
Venus and her younger sister, Serena (who is 18 months younger,) grew up in Los Angeles where they lived with their parents and three older sisters. They both started playing tennis when they were just four years old. The Williams family didn't have very much cash , so they couldn't buy any new tennis balls. Instead they played with old balls they found. The two sisters couldn't afford expensive tennis lessons at a ritzy country club either - so their dad, Richard, bought a book on tennis and taught them himself. The two sisters smashed balls on beat-up, old tennis courts for up to six hours a day while their dad, who had never played much tennis before, read instructions from his book.

The sports star has secretly been battling migraines for much of her professional tennis career and admits she was amazed when she discovered miracle drug Frovatriptan. Serena Williams has suffered a shock defeat to home favourite Francesca Schiavone in her opening match in the Italian Open.
By Guardian Newspapers, 5/11/2005 Serena Williams, who has not won a clay-court title since being crowned French champion three years ago, lost her opening match in the Italian Open yesterday at the Foro Italico, beaten 7-6, 6-1 by Francesca Schiavone.
Williams held a service break in the opening set against the 24-year-old Italian, ranked No26 in the world and without a title to her name, but afterwards the American committed a stream of unforced errors.
"I suppose it was one of my worst defeats but it won't be happening again," said Williams, who since winning the Australian Open at the beginning of the year has struggled to find any form and suffered an ankle injury in her previous tournament in the United States in early April.
"I wasn't moving well and had a bad day. I've never felt like this before and was really flat but I'm not worried about the French Open," said Williams, watched by her mother and her sister, Venus, who is due to play in Istanbul next week as she prepares for Roland Garros.
