INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME AND INTERNATIONAL TENNIS FEDERATION ANNOUNCE NEW FED CUP AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
NEWPORT, RI The International Tennis Hall of Fame and the International Tennis Federation have announced a new Award of Excellence for Fed Cup. This new award will be presented to a person or persons who represent the ideals and spirit of the Fed Cup Competition. The recipient(s) must be a member of a past or present Fed Cup team, and must be from the country/region where the final is being held. The purpose of this award is to recognize the importance of Fed Cup international team competition and its mission by honoring individuals who represent these ideals.
The first recipients of the Fed Cup Award of Excellence are Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Conchita Martinez . The Fed Cup Award of Excellence will be awarded during the Fed Cup World Finals in Spain on November 10, 2001. Presenting the awards to Sanchez-Vicario and Martinez will be Juan Maria Tintore, member of the International Council of the Tennis Hall of Fame and President of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona - 1899; Agustin Pujol, President of the Spanish Tennis Federation and member of the Board of Directors of the Tennis Hall of Fame; and Francesco Ricci Bitti, President of the International Tennis Federation and member of the Tennis Hall of Fame's Executive Committee.
