Other Resources Becker exploded onto the tennis scene in 1985, when he became the youngest male, at seventeen, ever to win the Wimbledon singles championship. His victory was considered a fluke by some because none of the top seeds reached the final that year; Becker won a four-set over unheralded Kevin Curren to take the title. However, Becker proved it was no fluke by winning the championship again in 1986, this time beating Ivan Lendl. Then he reached the finals four years in a row, from 1988 through 1991, though he won the title just once, in 1989. Becker also won the U. S. Open in 1989 and the Australian Open in 1991. His last major victory came in the 1996 Australian Open. Becker was a finalist in the ATP Masters four times, winning the championship in 1988, and he won the ATP Tour World Championships Finals in 1992 and 1995. During his career, Becker had 49 tournament singles wins, ninnth all-time, and he ranks third in career earnings with $25,080,956.

Leimen, Germany Wimbledon titles: Runner up: Grand Slam titles: Prize money: Boris Becker burst onto the scene in 1985 when, as an unknown 17-year-old, he rewrote the record books by winning the Wimbledon title. Not only was he the youngest player ever to win, he was also the first unseeded player to become champion and the first German. His style of play was based around a huge serve that earned him the nickname 'Boom Boom' and on the grass at Wimbledon he threw himself around for diving volleys that made him a hero for youth all around the world. His heavy forehand and returns of serve were also factors in his rise to the top. In Germany, his impact cannot be over-estimated. Girls would camp all night outside hotel rooms where they thought he was staying and his devotion to the nation's Davis Cup team earned an incredible record of 38 wins and just three losses.

Report:
Federer seals Wimbledon hat-trick So Roger Federer has won his third Wimbledon title. What now? Well, five years ago we never thought Pete Sampras' incredible record of 14 Grand Slam career wins could ever be beaten - at least not this century. But Federer is only 23 years old and the way he is going, I believe he has a chance. Sampras won his last Wimbledon title at the age of 29, so Federer has a couple of years to chase that landmark and I'd say he is in a commanding position. As for whether he can win all four Grand Slams in a year - he certainly has the talent and it is a real possibility. If he stays healthy and motivated he could become the best but he has to play like he did against Andy Roddick on Sunday for the next five years.

BIOGRAPHY
Boris Becker captured 6 Grand Slam singles titles - 2 Australian Opens (1991, '96), 3 Wimbledon Championships (1985, '86, '89) and the 1989 US Open. Becker was ranked in the year-end Top 10 eleven times between 1985 and 1996. He finished his career with 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles. He was a singles winner in the 1988 Masters event (a finalist in 1985, '86, '89), winner at the 1988 World Championships Tennis event (finalist in 1986) and winner of the 1992 and 1995 ATP Tour World Championships Finals (finalist in 1994, '96).
Born November 22, 1967 in Leimen, Germany, Becker was the redheaded teenager that took the world by surprise in 1985 by winning Wimbledon - then the youngest male ever to win a major at 17 years, 7 months. (In 1989 Michael Chang, at 17 years, 3 months, won the French Open.) He was the first German champion and the first unseeded player to win the Men's Singles Championship. In 1986 he successfully defended his Wimbledon title, stopping Ivan Lendl in the final. At 6 feet, 3 inches, Becker's game featured a big serve, heavy groundstrokes and penetrating volleys. A crowd favorite at Wimbledon, he reached the finals seven times in 10 years (1985-'95). In the 1995 Wimbledon semifinal, he defeated Andre Agassi from a set down and behind 2 service breaks to win 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-4, 7-6(1). But in the final, he couldn't overpower another young American, Pete Sampras.
