Younes El Aynaoui saved a match point in his quarterfinal match. Morocco's tennis heroes both fought off match points in their quarterfinals Friday to set up an all-Morocco semifinal at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca. Younes El Aynaoui faced a match point against Nicolas Massu at 5-4 but withstood the Chilean's solid backcourt game with a bevy of inside-out forehands and some strong serving to close out the match after breaking to go up 6-5. It was El Aynaoui's third consecutive three-set win here in Casablanca this week and by far his biggest test in the draw. He has now won eight consecutive matches at the Grand Prix Hassan II, and is 6-0 in three set matches during that time. After losing matches to Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt earlier in the year after holding match points, El Aynaoui now had his own success at turning the tables. El Aynaoui repeatedly asked the crowd to quiet down on both his serve and on Massu's serve, but the rowdy Moroccan fans would not be subdued as their national tennis hero advanced to meet another Moroccan, Hicham Arazi, in the semifinals.

Arazi, ranked a modest No. 51, shocked the 10th seed 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. In 1998 Arazi also knocked Philippoussis out of the Australian Open when he defeated him 9-7 in the fifth set during a second-round match. Arazi had not been beyond the second round of the Australian Open in the past three years and last year did not go beyond the second round at any of the four Grand Slams. L'après El Aynaoui et Arazi : ue relève dans l'expectative Younes El Aynaoui a une nouvelle fois déclaré forfait pour l'Open de Paris pour une blessure récalcitrante. Il sera remplacé par son compatriote Hicham Arazi qui nourrit beaucoup d'ambition pour cette édition. L'an dernier les deux joueurs s'étaient retrouvés au deuxième tour mais le no 1 marocain s'était blessé alors que le score était à un partout(4-6,6-3) et 1-2 au troisième pour Younes. Aujourd'hui d'aucuns sentent qu' après Karim Alami , l'un des trois mousquetaires, c'est au tour de Younes El Aynaoui de tirer sa révérence . Bien avant la rencontre de Coupe Davis contre l'Argentine , le Rbati avait montré des signes de lassitude en raison d'une santé chancelante à un moment où il s'y attendait le moins . Il faut dire qu'à 32ou 33 ans , Younés était considéré comme un phénomène eu égard aux résultats et surtout à sa rage de vaincre même face aux plus grandes stars du tennis mondial. Il a procuré au public marocain des joies indescriptibles , des moments qui resteront gravés dans les esprits. Que ce soit lors des tournois du circuit professionnel ou en Coupe Davis , il s'est toujours comporté en héros. On se rappelle qu'il fut le seul à avoir fait trembler l'Espagne en Coupe Davis à Saragosse .Sublime !Au complexe Al Amal, il a fait vibrer les foules du central à chaque édition du Grand Prix Hassan II.
